so i bought a second hand mpc 1000 this week and have been having trouble from the start with it. I couldn't access the flash card either through usb or on the machine itself, tried 2 different computers and CF cards, even bought a new card. With this new card i was able to connect to a pc, so i downloaded JJOS free (it already had an older version of JJOS). When i loaded it on the MPC i installed it. It said that i had to turn it off and on again so i did. When it turned on again i got an error message: ' MPC1000 BootBlock Ver: 1.03 Boot on emergency mode a CompactFlash card was detected. A format cannot be recognized. system halt.....

so now i can't even turn it on or connect it to my pc to take jjos off... What can i do? i'm getting really frustrated...

try starting with the tap tempo button held down to get choice of OS. try that and see if you get a choice. Also make sure you correctly downloaded the latest JJOS FREE version first,. and install that again. if you can get to load screen that is.

That's an error you get when there was a bad flash. It can't load the operating system correctly off the flash.

As far as I am aware, unless you got someone with skills and access to dump the existing flash image off another MPC 1000, or a dongle that'll load the default OS, that unit is toast.

Unplug the mpc, place it upside down on a cushion. Here you'll see a small rectangular plate, unscrew to reveal the memory expansion. Touch something metal and grounded like a radiator or a computer casing to remove any static from your body. Pull out the memory chip, replace the memory cover, flip the mpc over and boot her up.
