Weird MPC 1000 screen problem

I dug up this old thread from gearslutz. What is described in the post is exactly what just started happening to my mpc 1000 today. Anyone have any ideas?

I just installed a new pad upgrade recently and free jjos version, could that have anything to do with it? Such a ugly coincidence that this happened right when i purchase the pad upgrade.

check all your connections including ram. i had to reseat my ram more than once to get shit to work right

What other connections are there to check besides the ram? What exactly do you mean by check? Disconnect and reconnect?

If you take off the faceplate (plenty of instructions online on how to do that), you'll see a bunch of ribbon cables. I don't actually remember exactly how the LCD's configured, but IIRC if you take out the screws on each corner of the display board, you can access a large ribbon connector on the underside, and I think the paired connection to the CPU board on the other side of the wire.

Yeah, just disconnect and reconnect. sometimes there could be a flaky connection, maybe a little oxidation on the contact or something. just be careful around the cpu board, don't drop anything in there.

youll wana take tha back off too as thats where most cables are but honestly i would try taking ram out and see if the prob is still there

Thanks guys. Well oddly enough, just taking out the ram and putting it back in worked...for now at least. It allowed me a two hour session with no problems. Yay!

I found I have this problem. But I think It may be a problem with the either the newer pad sensor pcb, the cable or mobo. Idk. The rolling lines like an old tv happen from time to time when I power on...however...if I hit a pad like it has a huge spider on it like it's life or death...the lines go away. Whenever it happens, the pads are disabled. Until I give it that falcon punch tap, I can only use the buttons and data wheel. Ive got two other 1000s that I'm either gonna sell or use for parts depending on if I need parts to fix my main 1000. Gonna look into it a bit more tomorrow.

I just emailed MPCstuff to see if they have any advice.

I may have found the solution. After emailing Mike at MPCstuff, he says it sounds like the PCB on the fat pad upgrade is shorting against the metal plate on the MPC. I put electrical tape on all the metal leads and screws that could make contact with other metal, and so far, the issue has stopped.
