Time correction

I just got the MPC 1000, and i'm basically learning it from scratch, when i try to make a drum pattern on a basic 4 bar loop, sometimes the note is way off beat, i know t.c. corrects is but i dont understand the swing % and notes? Anybody can help please thanks.

make sure the click is set to be heard during record. click=metronome. the swing function is there to give your drum patterns a little more of a human feel to it. and/or to make your beats... well uhhh.... swing
