I´m just about to buy an mpc 1000, but I just would like to know does anybody have any experiences about hooking mpc 1000 to Korg emx-1. They both are sequencers, yes, but I´m out of tracks with my emx-1 so I`d like to take mpc to it´s companion - some rhytms, some synth sounds and also some backing vocals would come from mpc. So the main question would be how stable is the midi sync between these two fellas (or how stable the midi sync is overall)? I do a lot of live shows and it would be a near catastrophy situation if the sync falls (well, at least if it falls all the time). And wich one should be the master and wich one slave?

Also another question: I save a SONG in mpc ( like a chain of loops, it´s possible, right), then save it to compact flash and when I load the song from compact, do the sounds of the song load automatically with the song or do I just get the "secuencing info" as a song and the sounds must be loaded separetely?

And one more: if I load a song from compact flash, does it take like 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, a minute...?

Thanks in advance! Peace!

I haven't had good luck with the MPC starting a sequence on the EMX and both of them staying in sync. I only tried it because of your question.
It didn't really keep good sync. It may be some ignorance on my part though.
It could be that my EMX is the third device in a MIDI chain. :)
It's obviously fine if I'm just using the MPC1K as the sequencer and using the EMX as a sound module. Which I do often.
I've never attempted the EMX as the sequencer and the MPC1K as the sound module.
If you buy the MPC1K it's highly likely that you will stop using your EMX as the sequencer and perhaps just use it as a sound module or sample loops/sequences into the MPC1K.

MPC is 1000 times the sequencer that the EM1X is, and is meant to be a central command station of any set-up. Electribes are very limited sequencers intended really for sequencing themselves only (though you def. control other modules with a trick or two).

I would recommend using the MPC as the Master seq/ clock, and syncing the EM1X to it... I have done this with the ER-1 and it was fine, should work with the EM1X

I wanted to add that though there is NOTHING the EM1X can do that the MPC1000 cannot (turn on the 1/8 or 1/6 quantizing on the MPC, add a little shuffle to taste) there is something to be said about different User Interfaces and Form Factors producing different results. I would def. still use the seq. on the EM1X as it has a "feel" and can be very fun... just sync it to the MPC cause the MPC is a better clock.

Okay, thanks! I think I´ll just get the mpc and take my chances with this sync thing. I´ll see how it goes (hoping the best) and let you know. I can´t wait to get the pretty little thing in my hands!

Had similar problems getting my Korg ESX-1 and MPC in sync. With MPC as the master, the Korg would trail a bit until I switched from one loop on the fly to another, and then they lined up just fine. Go figure. I haven't the slightest idea what causes the discrepency.

I have an EMX-1 and just got my MPC1k on Monday. It synchs perfectly if you press 'Play/Start' instead of just the play button on the MPC. Also; the MPC does do one very important thing (for me anyway) that the EMX-1 does not: external device sequencing. One thing I would have liked to see on the EMX-1 is a 'sudden' option for program change messages. It would be sweet if it would program change immediately on the signal from the MPC. It's no problem with long song-length sequences (just issue program change before the next bar that you want it to start on) but I prefer shorter sequences so I can mix them up.

I'm both happy and embarassed. I've owned both for over a year and I knew somehow they SHOULD sync but I could never get them to sync.
I always wondered why it was marked PLAY START.
Thanks Monk!
