I heard that the accuracy of these is impeccable....good enough to professionally master on. I'd like to hear them one day. How do they handle bass? I've had some monitors that squeked everytime bass would sound. Whenever I check out monitors I be sure to check bass response and handling.

unfortunately, the bass side of things is a bit squeemish, probably not the best for hip hop. but apparantly if a mix sounds good on these speakers then it'll sound good on any system thats worth more than 3 USD. they are REALLY LOUD! i have the volume settings on 8/30 on both, and i can hear it downstairs, they're such nice speakers. i love them !

they definately have adequate punch in them. and i prefer them to mackie HR824's that i used at school, althought they werent set up to the best of their ability

Well worth £300 if thats within your budget.

Those I have not yet heard. They don't have em in any shops here. I read some reviews on those. How is the accuracy? My knowledge about them is that they do sound very good, but the sound is coloured, therefore not so accurate or transparent.

Sorry for the delayed responce.

I auditioned alot of active monitors before purchasing the PM-1's and to me they were the best balance between quality of sound, accuracy of sound, weight of sound and bass responce. (there was alot of sound's in that sentance, sorry) lol

They suit the music that I am trying to make which is Hip Hop club bangers. I can't personally comment on their suitability for other types of Hip Hip or even music in general for that matter but I have heard that they are a very versitile monitor and I have had no issues (although they can sound a tad bright at times but I think that this is just my ears not being used to monitors).

"Apparently" Fostex are a japanese company that are pretty much the largest supplier of speaker cones and components to other speaker manufacturers (I say apparently as I only read this in Sound On sound Magazine but they are normally a pretty reliable source of info) so this should be some sort of assurance that Fostex kinda know what they are putting together.

For the £300 mark (think you can get them for less now) they are up there with the best, handle everything that I have thrown at them amazingly well, I realise that there are many others to consider but if you can track down a pair they are well worth a listen.

Edit, just found a review if its any use???

You saved yourself close to $200 bucks. I dont think you will be disappointed. Provided they come in perfect working condition. I heard these too. They are dope. I was going to get a pair of these, but I decided to invest in some really good speaker wire for the speakers that I am already using. I'm really happy with them now. Surprisingly something that simple can make all the difference, and save you a lot of $$$$

The question of studiomonitors are highly debateable.
Any speaker will sound different in different rooms for starters. This is why studios spend more money on acoustic treatment of the room than they spend on the actual speakers.
And you will percieve the sound different at different levels. For instance the bass will almoust always sound weak on low volumes.Turn it up and now the bass sounds louder. But there was never any change in the actual signal.
Still you want something that reprouduces accurately,no peaks or valleys.
Generally speaking a 6.5 woofer will have a less distorted hi-mid than a 8 inch.However a small speaker needs a sub, period.
The best bet in the current crop of budget speakers are the different models of Blue Sky in my opinion.

best thing to do, which i helped the previous owner of my msp5a's with (music teacher)
is to get someone to sit at one end of the room. and then using a piece of string attached to teh speakers, and the listener holding it (so distance is constant) then get the speaker holder to play music (probably the type you're gonna be listening to).
then move from one corner of hte room to the other listening for best spots, when you find two good spots, place markers, put desks etc. and place speakers at spots. works a treat, but pain if you've already set up.

im doing this when i move to australia in two weeks.

Finally got my tr-8's

they sound killin, definitely love the sound. Like a 20/20 "Event" type sound but I always thought the 20/20's sounded kind of "cloudy" at least at guitar center, these sound pin clear or whatever. Bass is nice, not TOO exaggerated although there is a boost...I expect I will get used to mixing on these very quickly.

Although one issue is when the volume goes up to "pretty loud" there is some mild clipping on the high-mids. So if you like to mix at high levels these might not be the best for you. But at normal close listening volume no problem whatsoever.

BTW these are my first monitors tho I listened to lots and lots at the store. THE BOMB> they sound like big tr-5's!!
