For $2000, is this an okay setup? Could I do better?

I already own a Triton LE 76, direct drive turntable and plenty of wax, and for the past two years I've been sampling, drum programming (not too bright, I know), and sequencing on the Triton. I'm tired of wasting all my tracks on just drum layers (its hard getting the Triton to thump w/ stock sounds) and have been waiting for some change $$$ to do the damn thing right.

So, that being said, next week I finally have about $2000 to get a little setup.

Here's what I've been considering:

MPC 1000
M-Box w pro tools LE (factory bundle)
Dell Pentium 4 3.0 ghz PC w/512 MB ram
Alesis MultiMix mixer
M-Audio Studiophile DX4 monitors

The price for these things new or on Ebay should be no more than $2000.

I've searched this site for the past week without posting frivolously (God knows how sensitive peoples can be on this board). I appreciate ANY input yall may have.

Do you have the sampling option on the triton? If so, you don't need a 1k. You got all the machine you need for beats. If you can't get the triton to hit hard then the MPC isn't going to help you. Maybe the problem isn't with your machine, but your mixing technique and what you are monitoring on.

If the dx4's are going to be your only monitors, don't get them. If you want something relatively small and inexpensive but good, get the KRK RP5's or Event TR5's. Only get Dx4's if you already got something bigger and better but you want something a lil different just for referencing, or if you just want them for regular PC speakers.

Anyways.......I don't kno wwhy your using the tritons stock drum sounds anyways. You have a turntable. SAMPLE YOUR OWN DRUMS!!!!

I WAS being cool with you.....I wasn't being sarcastic, just being cordial and offering the simplest advice that in most cases needs to be heard........but since you want to be homo about it......learn your fvcking 2 thousand dollar keyboard that you've already had for 2 years a bit better.....TWO fvcking years and you can't get past the stock sounds???? I've heard people using JUST the Triton make some ridiculous tracks....

better advice....sell your schit....


sometimes, simpler is better....as with the advise I previously gave you.....I was just trying to spark your interest in the beast of a machine you already have....

First, I DO know my Triton fairly well. Layering and throwing effects on those stock drums have served me well, to the point where most MCs (from here to VA) who hear my ish, want the tracks straight up. Straight from the Triton. Anyway, this is beside the point.

Problem is twofold. I have no way right now to record my stuff now. So why not get something together ALL AT ONCE so I can do it all from the crib?

GRIMAY: I've obviously tried sampling drums straight into the Triton, but I have no pre amp for my turns, ya dig. So ALL of my samples to this point sound like garbage (unless I can filter them really well). In the past I coulda remedied this really easy by buying a pre amp but I smoke too much and have too many damn kids. And this money's kinda falling in my lap.

Anyway, Boogie Man, I lOVE my Triton. Don't need anymore interest in it. However, two keys on the thing are not working properly from me hammering on them laying drum tracks. I don't know, I thought this particular side effect could be avoided by buying an MPC. That way I could just use it for those Triton sounds. I do have a nice keyboard though, thanks.

So you got 2g's to spend on equipment but you can't buy a preamp?

Anyways... get the setup you mentioned. Thats a fine setup. Have you looked into the other mpc's to make sure the 1k is right for you?

Money's falling into my lap. Every time I try to save $, the stash gets pilfered by 1) wifey 2) kids' needs 3) my smoke habit. I'd still be using my Triton with no pre amp for my turns if this shit wasn't coming to me in one lump sum.

I think the setup you are looking at is pretty good....To be honest with you I think the Triton LE is a piece of shit but thats defiantly not your problem....Go with what you are looking at and get real good at pro tools if you want to mix your own tracks (I am sure you already know this)....Defiantly the best way....Good luck!!!!
