What are you trying to do? If you're trying to play other midi eq. with the pads without hearing mpc sounds turn pgm to off. Need more info....

I'm trying to use logic as my sequencer instead of the mpc one. As I can't disconnect the pads from the samples when I hit a pad it triggers the sample and sends a midi note to logic which then sends it back to the mpc re-triggering the sample.

"I'm trying to use logic as my sequencer instead of the mpc one."

In that case sell your MPC. It is mostly sequencer anyway.

If you just need pads then buy an MPD for 250 USD.

So are you saying this can't be done on the mpc? Its such a basic function that I've seen on every other modern synth I can think of.

I'd rather not sell the mpc as I do use its internal sequencer, but sometimes I want to record in logic, process note mesages in max and other fun stuff.

Check this out.
mode-load
hilite-load from:memory card
press window- put autoload to off. This way when you turn on the mpc, no programs (samples) will load on power up.
OR, in the main screen, turn Pgm:OFF then the track you're working on will not trigger samples when you hit the pads.
This is as close most will get as far as disconnecting the samples from the mpc's internal sounds (local off). hope it helps

Doing that turns it into just a set of pads. I do still want samples to trigger on midi in, just not directly from the pads. Maybe I can disable logics midi thru instead.

I think I'm trying to fit a square peg into a round hole here

Are you trying to use it a polyphonic sampler, to trigger/control the tracks/programs on separate channels?
If so, it can't be done, you can only trigger samples/programs that are on the selected track by an external midi device.

you could still do some nice stuff recording midi from max into tracks on the mpc, but if you're wanting to process live midi input in max you'll probably want to use a different controller than the mpc (or experiment with the midi thrus)... and record only one track at a time... just a thought
