Will recordable track mutes ever be implemented on the 1000?

The only workaround you might consider to do what you want to do is re-sample all the sequences that you want to use into phrase samples (sample from Master Out in record mode) and then assign those samples to pads. Then you can sequence the phrases (the re-sampled sequences) like you would sequence drum samples.

This might also lead you to more unique sounds when playing live since you can now apply filters/effects specifically to each phrase sample just like you could with drum samples. It's more work overall, but sometimes workarounds can lead to new creative possibilities.

i do a combination of these things. i'll often resample drum loops or just build drum loops on my machine drum, sample them, and assign them to pads. i generally treat the track mute matrix sorta like ableton live with each column representing a track (drums are column 1, bass column 2, etc...) and then i can mix it up however i want. i use the different pad banks for progressions in the song, and i usually have all my midi program changes and bank selects on pads in one or two columns in bank d (when looking at the track mutes screen). makes it really pretty easy to get creative in a set. sometimes i'll sample all of the hits from the machine drum kit that i built and make a program out it so that i can just start playing along or write beats on the fly.

i've got short codes for everything so that i can look at one of those little cells and tell exactly what it is, wether it's a midi track or a sample, what type of loop it is, what midi device it's gonna play, etc. simple stuff but you just have to think about it.

the mpc1000 is a dope machine and it's perfect for doing live performances in track mute mode if you can find a way of working that makes sense to you. that's my way of working so hopefully that'll help others.

that all said, i'd still like to be able to record track mutes or record a song but just playing it out like i just explained.
