get REASON. that's the only sound module you'll ever need. if you need more sounds just buy reason's refills at $40 per cd/dvd. it already comes with gigs of sounds and every single sound in reason can be tweaked.

i'm most interested in hearing about the Mackie 1220...do you have the the audio interface yet?...how does the mixer sound in general?...you can use that thing as a multi input interface right?

its basically gangsta... i got it all hooked up at 2:39 in the morning... damn work tomorrow... so heres what i did...

X5 out to the mpc1000, then mpc1000 out to the mo'phatt. the mophatt has L&R going into the mixers 7+8th channel. the mpc is in the 5+6. then i installed the traktion software and it all works perfectly... and here is the kicker! oh man... all of my samples, cds on my computer, everything can be played into the mixer via the firewire :) i could never get this to work with my mbox. this is SO worth getting chupacabra. this mixer board is COMPLETELY free of any noise issues, the eq is SICK, the options for talkback and the control room... sick. the firewire was SO easy to install and get going. this will work with anything firewire, so i now need some suggestions on the best track recording/plugins/midi software. i will give a full report on the 1220 in a review... i need to go to bed |)

that mackie board sounds cool, but isnt mad expensive with the firewire option? mo phats got some nice filters, dont sleep on them. g4 with kontact should cover any sampling options that are in the mpc 1000 nicely. anyhow, enjoy that new shit there.

Ive bee running all my gear through a Onyx 1220 and its sound is pretty tight im not a expert on comparison but coming from a VLZ its for sure a bit warmer, as well you got metering on each channel ( only 4 LED,s but still cool )

The biggest flaw on the Onyx with Firewire is that you cannot tweak EQ on any audio going in, everything is PRE EQ , so you have to tweak in your DAW

thats what i heard...thats a huge flaw in my view...if they were to fix this, i would cop it in a heartbeat

i'm pissed now i got really hyped on this....i heard about the pre-eq thing but never from someone who actually used one...there was some rumor that they were going to fix this...seems unlikely though

if the eq-ed audio was what was sent to the PC, this thing would be brutal...its still dope but...FUK! it could've been great

how have you been doing your recordings? do you just try and duplicate your external eq within your DAW?

well, the mbox never acted as my soundcard for my computer... i had troubles with the install, and it worked with protools, but the windows media player didnt go... i messed with EVERYTHING including some mme or whatever software. i hate the mbox (except for its 0 latency :)

the 1220 allows you to do the eq quite well actually... you need to solo (rude solo) each track and adjust gain. ive been wondering how much is too much with this board though... the software registers a very week signal, like -18 or something... where should it be at? when the signal goes to about 7 on the board, then the software is getting some larger more exceptible wavs. is it ok for me to just adjust the input on the software. im avoiding any noise though...

ps: the board is at guitar center for 529... its includes a FREE firewire upgrade. its the sickest price EVER!!!! go to their website... the ad ran till tomorrow (the 31st), but maybe they will continue it through the holidays. if so, and I got some loot down the road, im gunna get a second one just for fun!

-18db is quite weak.
the best is if the software receive a hot signal, close to 0db but never 0db or more (unless you want a clipping effect)

so -3db would be good, but it depends of your style of playing (-6db would give a bit more margin etc...)

yeah, pre t t y gangsta... run and get it... heads could make $300 of it if they sold it on ebay! i paid 757 for the first one i returned...

most def reason 3 + refills... some dude was selling 4 dvds full for $20 on ebay...

but i like the hardware, the knobs... and crazy customizable... and not too much dough...

Yes something like that but i just track 2 tracks at a time via my soundcard since i still have one and i can use my EQ on the mackie , till the Mod comes out

If you want to do a Mod i heard that Mackie,s tech center up in Texas does mods on the ONYX so give them a shout if you get one , ill wait for the Mod to get public , im in SA so no hope for me here will have to do it myself,
