Leaving MPC1000 on overnight, etc.

Anyone just leave their MPC on all the time? Sometimes I don't want to turn mine off for fear of losing something I made.. worried about **** up and not saving every program or something after a long session making several beats.. Any reason not to just leave it on? Ever heard of one overheating or wearing out because of being left on for too long??

i don't like doing it, particularly if you aren't hooked up to some kind of power source that does away with spikes, etc.

it's just not safe and will shorten the life of your mpc...how much, i don't know. out of paranoia, i wouldn't do it.

just save your projects, man - esp on the hard disk, it doesn't take long at ALL

I don't have a hard disk yet.. would make it so much easier.. I see all this talk on this board about using one, but haven't really looked into it much.. It's hard for me to focus on making music AND focus on changing my system around, ya know?? Guess I should get on that at some point though.. But yeah.. I know.. I need to get better about saving shit...

get the adapter kit and the 80 gig hard drive and keep making beats!!!!!!!

First off, welcome. You need to save your work because early on (when the mpc1k forum started), some cats had issues with the lcd screen buggin out after leaving it on for extended periods. didn't post that to scare you BUT you need to come up with a method to save your beats. futureproducers.com has a tutorial which is good.

Yeah, I mean.. I do save them, but after I've been working for several hours, and have put together a whole bunch of sequences, with several different programs each, its such a paid to re-save each program into the folders.. I guess the lesson is, I should make a diff program for each song, eh?? Hmm...

?? just save project files or autoloads....you don't have to manually save each pgm....

i don't think i've written a song with less than like 10 programs in the last six months...you only use 1 pgm per song? consider using more...it might help you

I just got my MPC 1000 yesterday. I haven't done much yet, because of work. But when I do start messing with it, I'm going to recreate beats I already made so I can get more accustomed to it (ie. how to save, etc.) then move into making new beats on there.

Also, since Solah brought it up and I don't know much about it, where can I get the adapter kit for a good price?

ive left mine on over a month straight, reason being is, i couldnt save anything, my flash card was all **** up and i had done about 20 songs, so i had to jus save them by audio. didnt help that i kept makin different shit everyday

Yes, leaving it on will probably shorten the life somewhat, but not by much. The real danger with electronics is when you first turn them on. The amount of power used at startup is much more than when the system is up and running or idle.

I leave mine on all the time. I have for the last year plus... no issues. I have it attached to a surge protector, never had any lcd issues.

I do need to get better at saving ish though.
