please help, is my mpc broken!!!

m-audio audiophile....although a lil update, this thing doesnt stop crashing. i can get barely get any tunes done, and its my one **** day off work!! teaches me to buy things second hand....sorry to ask again, how would i go about removing the ram safely, in the past ive been too heavy handed with it

plse help more probs, taking this mpc back isnt an option. okay at the moment wheneva i try and save things it wont do anything. i save an updated song to its folder, it looks like its saving it to the mem card, but wheneva i restart the mpc and load the updated folder, nothing new has been added. ive just tried saving files to a new folder and wont do anything, altho for some reason loads of my files keep getting saved into the root without me telling them to go there. this is the most buggy piece of hardware ive eva used.

Ok you have a very crappy scenario that has developed no doubt. And I feel for you b/c trying to drop some tracks between work is hard as it is, let alone when sh$t ain't working properly.
I remember installing my 128 ram stick a while back and from what I can recall, all I had to do was unscrew a small casing and stick it in. In your case, I would try the reverse and try hauling the bugger out of there and see what happens. I also use an audiophile on my other pc and used it before with my mpc, so it appears as though your situation is with the MPC. Hopefully the ram is the problem, I know it would suck losing it but if that is the problem, hopefully that's all there is. Let me know if this works, hope it does.

right, ive taken the ram out, too early to say if theres any probs, but still wheneva i go to sav something, i get ??// makrs everywhere in my mem fold, and i hav to refresh it by selecting internal memory then back to the mem card. why the fuk does it do this? mayb my mem card needs formatting.....i mean if its not under guarantee is their still anyway of getting it fixed from a shop or akai in uk (if that exists)?

Did you try updating your OS? Try checking what version you have and see if there are any updates available on the akai site. Maybe this could help the scenario
With memory cards, they are often pretty sturdy, if you only have one memory card, try picking up a 32mb CF at wal mart and see if it helps. There's probably fu*k all wrong with the one you have.

well i would happily update to os2 when its out....i've had os 1.07 since i bought my mpc, i havnt reinstalled recently but i dunno....anyway i have backed everything on my mem card, formatted it, and gonna see how it reacts after that, altho some of my tunes wont open as i will hav only 16meg ram...

can u get ram tested in pc shops? was thinking it might be a good idea to take my 128 ram to a pc shop and get them to test if its ok. theres been no lock ups since ive taken it out, just the weird mem probs i was describing, but i havnt really played around long enuff for it to fuk up...i honestly hope it is just the ram and maybe a badly organised mem card or sumthing, otherwise im stuffed really.

it does seem to run more effiecently at the mo, and so far no crashes, the formattign has solved the mem card prob. just feel a bit pissed that my ram could be wats ****, it was kingston 128 (pc 133, 144-pin cl2) and bought brand new...im gonna hunt around for the warranty, but i imagine as i lack the original casing and wat not, then i doubt i get it replaced. i mean is it theoretically a bad thing to put non-akai ram into the mpc, i know everyone does, but why should good ram fuk up like that, im a bit scared about purchasing replacement ram (if ram was the prob in the first place) in case it happens again.

rob, how come you don't want to do what was suggested numerous times...... reinstall the os. believe it or not, that helps a lot of problems.

so your mpc sees 64mb of ram? or do you have a kingston 256mb ram.

i had reinstalled it once, i was just saying that it originally came with os 1.07 cos it was second hand (prob didnt make that clear), but yeh the os was reinstalled quite soon after i got the mpc as thats when the probs kept on occurring, but i havnt tried reinstalling a second...i will as soon as something messes up again.

sorry it is 256 meg ram, and i have 128 usuable in the mpc (well not at the mo as ive taken it out), forgot that
