another newbie question... finding loop tempos

hi again, i searched to no avail.

when i sample percussion loops to use for my live gigs ( afro-cuban folkloric, samba band, etc) do have to find the tempo for the following sequence with the tap feature? i don't think the 1000 has a feature to figure this out automatically,does it? do the other mpc's have an auto tempo find feature?

i can easily do the tap thing to set the tempo, just trying to save some time .

The answer to your question about an automatic tempo finder on the mpc 1000..no there isnt one......JUST YET!!!! Dont get your hopes up but just to let you know that the new OS (version 2.0, when it comes out) will have an automatic tempo finder...so its possible....Happy music making...Piece!

"Trigger the sample at the beginning of the sequence as usual with the sequencer. Then use the Tap Tempo buton to tap along with the beats of the phrase. This will adjust the tempo of the sequence to match the tempo in the sample. After a few bars it should be dead on."

cool........yea,i'm doing the tap thing already but i wanted something easier and faster ( lazy and ungrateful SOB that i am - HA!!)

what's funny is my lame purchase S20 phrase sampler that i used to use on gigs has this feature. i mean, akai includes the tempofinder on a 800 dollar box but not a 300 dollar box? that's lame......

The S20 was released in 1997 at a price of $650 (www.prepal.com). According to the BLS (http://www.bls.gov/cpi/home.htm) adjustment for inflation, that would be equivalent to $761 today, which is actually less than the original release price of the MPC1000 at $699 (mpc-forums.com).

I've owned the S20 and the Beat Loop function (http://www.akaipro.com/archive_doc/s20man.zip) is not anything to write home about. It simply calculates the temp based on the sample length which is simple math that a 3rd grader can do with a calculator (http://deepsound.net/calculs.html).

cool thanks for that if it's so simple,then how come it's not in the MPC1000? it would make my life easier,and after all, isn't it all about me?

do the 2500 and up models have this feature? i'm sure they do,right?

lets make this thread more interesting. instead of using calculators how bout showing formulas on this thread, how to find end points how to find bpm in samples or ms and so on. the key is we need to see formulas not another calculator. ill post my formulas i got off dubnov and this other cool cat that helped out another guy here who owned an asr10 with the same issue. im one of those guys who would like to know more bout the manual aproach, im sure most of u who use calculators wonderd the steps to take for manual editing of samples, post ur formulas here!!!
