Level meter is flat when resampling

I'm trying to resample for the first time. I hear what I'm trying to sample in my mixer, but the level meter in the MPC Record window is completely flat. I tried setting the master volume to 0dB and still no luck. The tracks are all set to ST in the Mixer window. The input is set to MAIN OUT. Any ideas?

You have everything set correctly. Just hit record and press play or play start. The mpc will record your main outs, but the window will stay flat. After you've recorded, you can name and save your sample. Easy.

But nothing is coming through the monitor. I can't record because the threshold is never reached. I try to force it and nothing happens.

this is talked about in the manual.... page 51

MPC 1000 2.1 Reference Manual wrote:Note : When the MAIN OUT is selected, you cannot adjust the
recording level When the MAIN OUT is selected, the recording
level is decided by the setting of Master level in the GLOBAL
page of the OTHER mode. The initial setting of the Master level
is –12dB as the output sound will not distort when many samples
are played back simultaneously. If you record one sample through
MAIN OUT with this setting, the recorded sample level is lower
than the original sample level. In this case, if you set the Master
level to 0dB, the recorded sample level is same as the original
sample level.
Note: When MAIN OUT is selected, the level meter is not displayed.

do you have the "main out" selected as the source?

Reduce the threshold recording value! That feature doesn't work from what is on the screen, but by what level is at the selected input (in this case the main outs).

my bad on last post, there's a couple of things to keep in mind,when main out is selected, the level meter is not displayed. if mainout is selected you cannot adjust the recording level when themain out is selected. go to global and adjust you master volume that should do the trick.

If he's resampling the Main Outs, cables aren't involved. The end result sample is a digital copy of what you'd hear from the Main Outs and no looping of audio cables is required.

When I picked up my first MPC, I did not read the manual. In back in the day..when I picked up my first MIDI keyboard (JV-80) and one of Roland's earlier sequencers....no manual. It took me awhile, but I learned MIDI on my own. No tech support...and this was before Al Gore invented the internet

Thanks everyone. I'll try it again later. BTW, I've read the manual. I don't know how I overlooked it. I guess somtimes it helps for someone else to point it out. That's why this site is so invaluable.
