The 1000 and Soft

I've been getting into Ableton Live and Kontakt. I plan on getting rid of my Access Indigo 2. (Don't ask, can get over the fact I can buy three pieces of gear for this one. I need more controls.) I do have a Machinedrum and an MS2000. I want something to trigger voice samples and the like with something. I've had an MPC 2000 before. It was my first gear. I sold it about 2 years ago. I kind of miss it but glad I got rid of it now.

Would you say the Akai is still more creative than the Korg counterparts? Anyone have an opinion about both?

I know Kontakt is a great program. Don't you think this prog. blows away the MPC? What about a comparison with Ableton? This may be hard to answer. I like hardware better, and I plan on building some synths.

Would it be worth it to get the little mpc not for many drums but for vocals or acoustic samples?

Are there any features that may be implemented in the future OS updates? Anyone know about this?

About the last question, I think Akai is very detached from their customers.

I think I have to get my hands on one at a Guitar Center or something when I get back to the states. By the way, If you didn't know Akai means "red" in Japanese.

Great to finally see an mpc forum after many years of hit and miss.

it's funny. It really depends on what a person is doing and what a person's objectives are. I've worked in both hardware and software and all of my clients have responded most positively to what i've produced using hardware. I understand the current fascination with software. At the same time, i find it very difficult to believe that we will someday find ourselves in a "software only" production world. I have worked with basically every software synth and sampler available today on Mac, Windows and Linux and i still prefer my MPC based set up.

Regarding the MPC1000: i've always felt that it's the MPC for people who don't own an MPC. It looks like a great tool with a bright future. As for Korg versus "Red"...i don't know. Depends on what you're looking for. In the end it's all the same: just different ways of doing the same thing.

Remember, it's all about the "musicality" of the end result. And that's a deep subject.

if your software supports VST then thats an edge too cause you can keep upgrading. I myself started with software and im still using software. any of DAW is just as good.

nothing beats the other as long as you enjoy your music. 9th wonder who uses fruity loops may have been dissed by other people but look he's producing for jay Z. so now people see what 9th wonder did and what he's using then alot of people are thinking of getting FL. its all about the music.

Any software workstation is just as good. But you need to understand exatcly what you want to do. I learnt midi reading a book before i ever used a software. So put my with reason, cubase,sonar,logic, anything and i would at least know the technical aspect. I got my mpc on saturday and i still havent set it up at all cause im reading to understand it first before i even use it.

SO basically what im saying is, you have to know what you want to do then go for it. I can recomend cubase to you as a software but then there is cakewalk which is just the same price but they do the same thing. so just got with whatever you feel most comfortable with

i've heard from a couple sites 9th got either an MPC60II or an 2000xl. i guess he took some pointers from pete rock.

where did you hear he got a 60?

it was some forum (okayplayer.com, I think). Phonte and Pooh were offering 9th a pork chop and he turned it down because he was busy on his 60 trying to get down his 'boom bap'... it was just a humorous article talking about how they need to fatten that guy up. But I also heard he had a 2000, so who knows...
