Just thought I'd introduce myself as I've only just joined this forum, and I'm thinking of getting myself an MPC 1000.

Lack of Afro is the name I record under, I live in Exeter, Devon (in the UK, thought I'd bring a bit of British love to the forum....!) and I am a freelance composer (I hate that word...!), writing varying styles of music for promotions, films, ads and multimedia.

Music is my life, and I listen to anything (a cliche I know, but in my line of work you really have to know what the clients are on about when they give you the name of an obsure band, whose style you then have to try and copy...!) Having said that, at the moment I'm big into my British instrumental hip-hop, anything on the Grand Central label (Aim, Riton, Rae & Christian, Jon Kennedy etc...). Have you guys in the States heard of them? And of course, anything by the God that is DJ Shadow. 'Endtroducing' just blew me away.....

My studio is based around a PC (rapidly slowing down!), running Sound Forge, Acid Pro, and Cubase SX. In terms of hardware I have a Novation K-Station synth, a Kurzweil Micro Ensemble Module, an Oberheim MIDI controller keyboard, a Focusrite Penta Compressor (my latest bit of kit), a 1210 deck (with a stack of sampled vinyl!), and a Spirit SX Mixer, as well as Behringer Truth monitors. Don't know if that's of any interest to anyone but there you go......!

I'm very interested in getting an MPC 1000, as I am a drummer (I also play sax, guitar, bass and keys), and I need something to 'play' beats into my sequencer with. It would also be nice to carry the MPC around with me to write ideas on, and to hook it up to my PC when I get home for mastering purposes.

Does anyone know which size Compact Flash card to get? I don't want to spend loads and then not need it all, but then again I don't want to be left short either. Some advice would be appreciated, as the MPC 1000 over here in the UK is £649. Obviously that's not cheap, as I would then have to add the cost of the Compact Flash card on top of that plus carry case, etc...

Well, that's about it I guess, except to say if anyone is interested in some of the music that I write, then feel free to visit my website:

Unfortunately, at the moment this site only works on a high speed internet connection, such as broadband, ISDN, etc. Sorry 'bout that. Not sure if that works as a link, but you've got the address anyway!

Thanks for reading,

Thanks DJARTWORK....

Is it just a standard Compact Flash card that I need to get then, or are certain specific makes better for the MPC 1000? Which one have you got?

I still have the 32 mb that came with my MPC 1000! 32 mb holds alot and I'm usin the MPC 1000 for Hip-Hop/R&B! I will cop a 512 mb compact flash card to have alot of room to store my sounds from a couple of sample cd's all on this lil compact flash card! MaAn this is NICE I don't have to worry about floppies and zip disk anymore!
