upgrading the o.s. from what?

which version do you run?

If the latest version you runnin' is 1.7 or older - than you must be kiddin', right?

Don't get me wrong - I don't wanna step on your toes, but if you are who you pretend to be, than as a seasoned engineer it would have been an easy thing to download the pdf manual and see if there's a difference.

I think that there is (or at least was) a comparison chart on akai's website.

We usually get such questions from noobs - but to find an answer would have been easier than typing your initial post.

But if you want a short answer, basically....................

YES - there's a lot of differences between old and new os.

take a serious look at the new manual.
