Flash Card....need help

I recently got me an MPC1000 and I have been messing with it. Today I tried to save a sequence to my flash card an encoutnered a problem. This is a problem that I have had since day one. Everytime I put the memory card in the slot the MPC freezes. Sometimes, after a long minute, it might take me to the load up screen. I can't do anything from that point on. I have read the manual. Make sure the drawing is up, check. Place the card in carefully so that I don't damage any pins, check. What the hell am I doing wrong? I want to reformat my card so I can save a simple sequence to it. Any help would be appreciated.

have you tried putting it in before youy turn it on????????lol also erase all files on it on a computer, maybe this might work??????

Inserting the card before powering the unit wont help anything.

Every once in a while, some of the card readers become defective. This happened to me and atleast 2-3 other people on these forums. Unfortunately when this happens, the unit needs to be sent back to Akai and it could take over 6 weeks for a replacement CF reader to arrive from Japan after they ordr it. You'll have a choice whether you would want to wait 6 weeks or more for the part or you can settle for a B-Stock replacement unit. Either way, make sure to remove your ram before sending it in, just incase you get a replacement unit and they dont return your ram. Good luck.

btw, is this a new unit or second-hand? If it's secondhand, then you're gonna end up paying for a new CF reader. Either way, I'd suggest calling VST for service until Akai can better manage their customer service. I'm not trying to be an Akai basher. Just speaking from personal experience.

better yet... if you bought it brand new and owned it less than 30 days, just save yourself the headache and return it for an exchange.

So I have to ship this thing to japan? Are there any other solutions I could try? Man, and I just got the hang of this thing. I bought a mizer that coming to me as we speak. Oh well just my luck. and sorry for the newb question but what is VST? Thanks for the reply guys. I guess I will contact akai.

You dont have to send it to Japan. Akai US is in Rhode Island, but if you cant return it to the music store you bought it from because you've owned it longer than the return policy would accept, I would recommend contacting VST. They are an authorized Akai repair center located in Pasedena. As long as you bought it new, the warranty is covered for one year. Here's the link to VST... http://www.vstservice.com/.
