my CF reader died...

Last night i noticed my CF reader wasn't recognizing CF cards, and this morning i inspect it and i see that one pin is totally bent, and the one right underneath it looks completely gone. i straightened the one out, but i still have the one pin that is either pushed in or is broken off. Not good. Where would be the best place for me to get a new CF reader for my mpc 1000?

whens the funeral? 4 real though, contact vst and see if they have replacement readers.

Talked to Nick at VST.....he said Akai has been backed ordered on the card readers for several months now, so i'm just going to order a hard drive kit from him instead. Thanks for the posts, guys!

Akai was mos def smokin crack when they built (or had someone build) the CF reader/writers for the 1000/2500.

have there been many instances of cf reader malfunction? the only ones i have heard are this one, i think one other, and when sparq's kid put in a card upside down...

do you think it's a poor build? have there been instances in the 2500 of card reader problems?

I haven't had any problems with my 2500 reader..but it is exactly the same as the 1000. You have to be very careful inserting flash cards or you can easily damage the drive. I have CF readers in all my computers. The MPC 2500/1000 CF card readers are the cheapest I have ever seen. Even the MPC 2000XLs MCD is better built.

my card reader died on me over the summer, and i didn't even damage the pins or anything. there were some other forum members who had the same problem as me. every now and then, some card readers prove to be defective over the course of time. problems may occur intermidantly and then completely stop functioning, or they could just stop functioning without any signs of trouble at all. it's impossible to determine if or when it could happen, and that's something that doesn't sit right with me, even with my replacment unit that i had to settle for because akai didn't have any card readers for my original unit.

I didn't know people had problems with their readers. I was led to believe that these readers were much better than SCSI Zip drives....which I have used for years with no problems.....still have a few lying around..

Yeah I've seen and responded to a few threads concerning this problem. It's not as common as the pad problem on the blue 1000's, but I'd say that overall, it's less common than SCSI Zip Drive problems. The thing that's most frustrating about it is that Akai doesnt keep replacment CF readers in stock, and neither does VST because of Akai. You and I both know that it takes forever to have Akai ship things over to the states from Japan. They really need to get it together with stocking up on all their replacement parts. The tech department aren't doing their job right at all, especially given how long it's been since they never stock these CF readers. Everyone can thank Rob Ray for that, since he's in charge of that department. The guy is shadier than $ean $hea.
