Using MPC to trigger loops onstage

New here but I don't think this has been covered:

I am looking for hardware that will allow me to trigger multiple fairly long (20-30 second) loops onstage. I provide the electronic noise portion in the group I play with and I want to be able to trigger multiple looped and one-shot samples. The ability to do horrible things to them live is a plus. I have been looking at the SP404 but I keep eyeing the MPC 1000, partially out of sheer gear lust, but also because I saw someone do some impressive looping although using short samples.

Is the MPC 1000 stable for triggering and looping longer samples or do most users cut their samples up? Is it even practical to try to load up longer samples onstage?

And to those like Antonym who have both: is the SP404 even worth looking into for this sort of thing?

The mpc1k is fully capable of doing this, but so is the sp404..If thats your main reason for gettin it, then go with the sp404..plus its cheaper, and some really good effects..

i love my mpc1000 but if you want to trigger loops and rip them a new one with incrediable real time effects the 404 is the way to go bro.

i think both are good for this purpose. i trigger loop wavs in oneshot form from the mpc and trigger looped loops on the sp404 that play until i turn them off. good combo.

get the sp404

it's cheaper, can trigger one-shots or loops and it's meant for tweaking the effects live

Thanks for everyone's input. I am leaning heavily towards the SP-404. I keep looking at the MPC mainly because, well, they're fricken' MPC's, aren't they? I am always in awe at how organic and instrumental making beats can be when done well on one of these little critters. Gear lust can do horrible things to the brain.

Downside is I guess I'll be going back to lurker status. It's been a hoot.
