Regarding the MPC's sequencer [pls see last post] thanks.

Understood, I think. My issues is that in song mode, as I understand it, you can LINK sequences together to make a whole song. Using the process you outlined, I would have to create a new sequence for the one-time part I am adding, then also recreate [or copy, I suppose?] the other tracks that continually loop, and include them in the new sequence I created. I don't want the one-time addition to play by itself, I want it going in conjunction with the other tracks.

But check it-- you cats have been real patient with me. I'll try out some methods mentioned in this thread and see how it feels.

The MPC is a pattern-based sequencer. The idea being that you create individual sequence patterns for each part of the song and then put them together in "Song Mode".

So the obvious answer is to create separate patterns for the phrases that only get played once. However, you can also create one long pattern containing the entire song (I think patterns can be up to 999 bars?). You'll just have to copy parts where needed, and work with a song map so that you can navigate easily to different parts of the song.

There is a convert option in song mode. I belive it takes what u patterned out in song and makes a new sequence from it. That might help, might now.

But ya if yo uhave a part that only needs to come in once then youll have to just make a copy of the other stuff and then merge this into them creatign anew pattern.

Would be cool if they let you sequence like in atari notator where you had 4 separate "tracks" to sequence your patterns on. So you could have one track that didnt loop at all to overdub stuff over the ones that did.

you can do whatever you want!!!!!!! there r 3 things here- sequences,songs,and tracks and they r all almost limitless......and they r interchangeable..... its not a groovebox though. but it can do all of that... the real trick is truly understanding what i said first. then it will just flow naturally. back in forth, back in forth, then before you know it u got a complete song so you eq it because even some speakerboxes cant take my bass or sabb so i got to tame it and clip it in the eq and compress it a little to shine then make a wav. file and let someone else mess with it so its not just me and stagnate then we send it out like some nike shoes but really its a song that will die when i do i guess...lol haha
