MPC 1000 2.10 install and horrifying blank LCD !!!!!

Hi Folks!

I'm a bit down tonight. Decided it was the night to upgrade my OS from 1.07 to 2.10. When the display finally read "completed" (which overall did not take too long at all) ... I then had no display to speak of! Oh, sure, the screen was green and glowing, but no characters at all. I thought it was trying to write the OS and would re-boot in time, so I left it alone for an hour or so before turning it OFF. After the hour had elapsed, STILL, a blank screen. Am I doomed??? The music I create with samples is doom-tinged, but I never imagined this would happen to me! I'm in the midst of trying to push out a record here. Any help would be appreciated. I will try to call Akai in the morning, but sometimes I lack faith in them

hold down the ERASE button and turn it off while still holding down the ERASE button then turn it back on. see if that does anything.

have you turned it on and pressed REC+PLAY? see if you can hear the metronome?

try to find the instructions in the manual on how to adjust the CONTRAST or DISPLAY DARKEN/LIGHTEN settings in the manual and adjust it when the machine is turned on and by following the instructions..Kinda like turning off a computer without the moniter and just the keybored.

once you tried that with no success then call akai.

Hold down shift and move the data wheel. See what happens. It seems when alot of people do this, their brightness gets out of wack.

that adjust the contrast? yea try that when the machine is on.

Word, this just happened to me during the upgrade.

Yup ... Solah hit it right on the head! My problem was resolved when I held down the ERASE key, powered-down the MPC, and then powered it up again whilst still holding down ERASE. Verion 2.10 came up swingin'!

A new inquiry is this: I have downloaded a bunch of sound clips (I call them samples) which were free, and welcomed to download by the site moderator. I put them on CF the same way I organize all other sample libraries on the CF, and the MPC had no problem finding the titles on the card and bringing them into the queue to be loaded. HOWEVER: when I went to load up and selected "DO IT", the message appeared "WRONG FILE" -- or something like that. These sound clips ARE definitely .WAV files, however upon closer inspection under the PROPERTIES section for the file, the .WAV files' codec is MPEG-3, which is UNLIKE the codec used for the other samples for the MPC (even though they are also .WAVs) for example, any of the bonus AUTOLOAD samples (the audio format, or codec, for these samples is "PCM" )

So the question is, where the MPC won't recognize the MPEG-3 audio format (even though the sound file is .WAV), is there a freeware app. that I can download that will convert these MPEG-3 files to the PCM format so that I can load them into the MPC and trim 'em up and all that good stuff?

Please let me know if you have any solutions, and also share your experiences if you've had the same kind of problem.
