Newb Question

I just got my MPC 1000 and I'm loving it. My question is regarding recording samples. I'm attempting to record piano chords on my MPC and have successfully been able to record and assign one sample. Yet, when I got back to record another chord, it only gives me 2 second and doesn't allow me to increase the recording time. The first same I was able to record and then trim. Please help

you need to up the RAM, check the sticky at the top...

Updated ram is so key- lets you take whole sections and songs at a time and save them for later (if you've got an HD)

In the meantime just put the sample you have on a new program, make sure to chop as small as you can and discard unused air on the sample. Save it all (sample and prgm). Restart and sample again- repeat until you have what you need.

wow i didnt know that i would have to restart the mpc each time i sampled thing....it gives me 4 seconds when i restart...does that mean that sampling something longer than 4 seconds is out of the question with upgrading the RAM?

somethings not right...

even with standard memory you should have more than 4 seconds.

He means restart the process, go to RECORD MODE and start over, not switchibng the unit on and off.

Check if you have a shitload of autoload samples cluttering up the memory, only leaving you with 4 sec sampling time.

Hit WINDOW when you have the name of a sample marked, hit DELETE and choose ALL. Now try again and see how much sampling time you´ve got.

yeah i'm going to try that today..
basically what is happening right now is that when i turn on my mpc and attempt to sample something....it only gives me 4 seconds to sample. When I sample those 4 seconds, store it and then return to sample something else...it is only 2 seconds or 0 seconds. Also, when I hit window in the record menu, it shows that i'm taking up a lot of my RAM (which im going to upgrade for chopping samples and stuff). Thus, the only way I can get those 4 seconds back to record is turning off the mpc and restarting it. Now, I do have the CF card in the MPC when I turn it on, so it Autoloads a shit load of stuff. I'm guessing, from what you guys have been telling me (thank you), I should turn this autoload off and it'll free up more room, right? I was looking around the forums and the consensus I have heard is the best way to do this is just rename the autoload folder or keep the autoload folder empty, while all your drum kits are in some other folder. Any tips please
