Any1 use reason as a sound module w/ the mp. Im thinkin of doing this, just not real good with MIDI shit. Im pretty much used to making beats on a stand alone unit. Any feedback on this set up would be highly appreciated. thx     :D

i do this and love it. i find that reason sounds need a good deal of processing. i usually use reason and my sp404 to shape the sound and then bounce it over the my mpc for sequencing. i love reason, esp the maelstrom for bass. good stuff.

also the sound banks for the nnxt are great. you can tweak the sounds very nicely. good reverb unit, too. a lot of the synth presets suck real bad though - they're the kind where you have to build the song around the synth, rather than suppliment the song with the synth if you dig me.

that's why i program my own synths. they're pretty simple, mostly modulated sine/square tones, but they sound good w/ processing. very good in 12 bit, or recorded to tape to soften up, or BOTH.

I watched the video( thx afex!!) i actually have a oxygen 8 mpc1000 and a laptop w no sound card( just got sum cheap speakers plugged into the headphone jack.) I got like the cheapest m audio usb midi joint & it only has one midi out and one midi in. I tried the setup in the vid and when i set it up i can trigger the sounds from reason on the mp pads and off the oxygen but when i sequence it only records what i trigger from the mp and not the oxygen. Whatever i play on the oxygen doesnt rec to the sequencer. Is there any additional things i need besides the sound card and How do i correct the problem of the oxygen info not recording to the seq? Damn thats alot 2 read. sorry any help is highly appreciated. 1 :x :x

If you have cubase also you can rewire reason up to it and do all the programming for reason in cubase and have one midi channel for your MPC. Although doing all your stuff in cubase means you only get one track from the MPC you still have the 4 PAD banks for that single track to fill up. More than enough space if your using the reason/MPC combo. You don't have to mess around with the step edit and sync on the MPC if you go through cubase etc. That said I know people like tapping away on the pads and using the MPC as the master but other options are there if you want them. :)

I am pretty new to MIDI as well. If I understand the issue correctly, when you play back your sequence you are not hearing the work you did in Reason? If that is the case, do you still have the session you did in Reason open? You need to have the Reason session open and ready to play back when you push play on the mpc.

basically that's right... unless you sample the audio from your computer into the mpc and insert it into the sequence, then it becomes self-contained on the mpc

Im not doing any work in reason just using it strictly as a module. I do have the session open ( i aint that slow...). The issue is the note events i trigger in the oxygen keyboard controller do not register to the mp. However, those same sounds can be triggered from the mp pads which sequences fine but the notes are scattered on the pads i.e not in a chromatic order, which is why i want to use the oxygen. What exactly should my midi cable setup be. I got the oxygen midi'd to the cpu via usb and my m audio uno midi'd from the cpu to the mp midi out and in. Is the cords right? :x
