Looking for an akai sampler to use with 1000

Just wondering what everyone out there thinks would be a good compliment to the mpc1000. I was thinking about getting a s950 for that 12 bit sound, but at the moment I'm unsure about if it will work with the 1000. I know in the manual it says that there is limited compatibility with the rack samplers, so what do yall think. Is anyone out there using a combination like this? Let me know what's up. Thanks.

i had that same idea but there's bit grunger on the mpc 1000 unit already. i think if you don't know the rack sampler as i do, there's really no point of getting it.

there's lots of reason to get a regular sampler. i think it would go great with an mpc. the way it is now, i use keyboards and synth modules along with mp mpc. if you want to play, say, piano along with the mpc you'd have to set up every single note on a pad. pretty lame.. on a sampler it is all right there.

anyway, i had an s3000xl right before getting my mpc1000. i had all these sample disks for it, it was pretty sweet. it would have went great with the mpc. you can get them with a zip drive for $350 around here (nyc) pretty often.

I think an S950 and an MPC 1000 would be a killer combo. I've been looking to buy an S950 for a while, but decided an Mpc 1000 would be the first to get (sequencer, etc.) I used to have an Sp1200, and wanted to sequnce with that and an S950. I have to say, though, that the Bit Grunger Effect on the MPC 1000 was NOT what I expected. If I'm using this feature correctly, it sounds as if distortion is added to the sample. I was hoping to get that Sp-1200-ish or S950-ish sound using that effect, but now I know that nothing can really emulate the sound of the 12-bit samplers.

Anyways, back on topic, the MPC 1000 could hook up with MIDI to the S950. Then, using the S950 as the sampler, record your sounds and then before or after (whatever you choose) making your beat, I would re-sample the sounds into the MPC1000. That way, you don't have to go out and buy a bunch of floppy disks to save your sounds. To be safe, only keep a few on hand to save samples as you go along, in case of the unit's malfunction. Just save the sequence, the sounds, and everything else into your MPC1000's CF-card, and then ultimately back it up into your computer using USB. I love the flexibility of this. Get the warm, 12-bit sound and the flexibility and ease of use that the MPC1000 offers.

i didn't know that the mpc1000s bit grunger was whack. but i just got the unit yesterday so wasn't really able to play. i played it all morning, getting used to it.

i have a question about the s950. does it have timestretch on it?

yo i love the bit grunger... i never use it past 3, usually at 1 or 2

yeah, it sounds like distortion, but so does a tube amp..

Thanks for all the info guys, I think im gonna start looking on ebay for a sampler. I did have one question though that i did want to be sure about. When I'm using the sampler can i take a sample and spread it out across my keyboard to play it at all the different notes, sort of like on an asr-10? I guess i basically mean can i control the samples through midi with the mpc and my keyboard as if it were a module? Thanks again for the help yall.

a sample set that is made that way. Otherwise you just get a pitched version of the same sample up and down the keys. There are great samplesets of pianos etc where each key is sampled and assigned a note number. These map perfectly up and down a keyboard without pitching.
