My first MPC

I just got my first MPC ever. It's an MPC 1000 and I bought it on Ebay. But I don't have a clue about how to use it yet.

So now I'm trying to do the first steps and check out if the thing is really working... display works and everything else seems fine. Also when connecting some headphones, I can hear at least the clicking (after I turned clicking on).

But then I tried to play the demo song and use the pads with the sounds that come along (like it is suggested in the quick start manual). But I can't even find the mentioned sequence called "01-DJ-Hip_Hop" which I am supposed to select. There are a bunch of other sequences though.

Can't seem to get some sounds out of it other than the clicking....
Why is that? What could be the reason?? Is there something wrong with the on board memory? What do you experienced users think about this?

Yeah when I got mine there wasn't the 01-dj... sequence either, but a bunch of other ones. When you turn it on the internal memory should autoload the sounds and programs and stuff....but perhaps not. Check in the load menu and see if there are any sounds in the internal mem. at all, and not just blank sequences. If it says they are there make sure they are loaded and then just make sure everything else is in order.

If the person that owned that before you saved some sequences but didnt save the sounds you wont hear anything. Use the 32meg card that came with it and see if there are any sounds on that. Load up your own sample and see if you can hear it. Make sure to read through the manual.

oh..I forgot that you bought it on ebay...yeah the person before you either turned autoload off or deleted the sounds..

I didn't find the solution yet. I tried to load different things from the two memory cards that came along aswell as from the internal memory. I even found the "01-DJ-Hip_Hop"-Sequence which is supposed to provide the demo song.

The only time I could get some sound out of the machine was when I browsed through some samples and pressed "play" (F5 I believe) to prelisten the sound. That did work but other than that... nottin.

Does anyone have an idea about what could be the reason for this?

I think if you can play the sound then you can load it up.

and to add one more thing:

I connected the mpc to my pc to check if there are really samples the memory cards... and there are. I can play the files with my iTunes.

So there must be a problem with loading the stuff. Or with playing it or I don't know what the heck is going on.

Ok power it on, press the mode key so it's blinking then press pad 2 (the load pad) hit the arrow up key under the mod wheel so the Load from: is highlighted. The window key should light up and stay on, press the window key and the Load Setup menu should popup. If autoload is set to off turn the data wheel so Internal Memory shows up, press close. Reboot it and the sounds should be there if not turn it off and HOLD down the ERASE key while powering it up and that should bring back all of the demo songs and samples.

OK, this is what I am doing now:

- I insert one of the two memory cards that came along (32)
- I press, MODE, LOAD
- then I choose LOAD FROM: MEMORY CARD; beneath that there is written ROOT
- I choose FILE: AUTOLOAD
- I press F6 (DO IT)
- then I can see "LOAD ALL PROGRAMS AND SAMPLES AND ALL (SEQS&SONGS) FILES. REPLACE SAME FILES IN MEMORY: YES
- I go nuts and press DO IT
- it seems to load something
- now it says: "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY!!" (that sounds bad)

mmh... I try the same with the other card: nothing really seems to happen

now I try the same with the internal memory and I can manage to get "01-DJ-Hip_Hop" as a sequence which is supposed to provide the demo song as mentioned before... BUT when pressing PLAY START nothing happens other then clicking.
