O.K. I had my mpc turned on for 2 days straight (not much). While it was ON, my CF card was in the CF reader for the whole time. I don't know if you guys keep your CF cards inside the reader all the time when your mp's are turned on cause I do. I checked a different CF and it doesn't read it. I tried to reinstall OS 2.1 and it can't detect the CF card. I also can't connect through USB. Anyone ever had similar problems? It is a major one because there is no replacement on CF readers as far as I know. Also before everything happened I was running on Os 2.1 but I know it's not a bug or anything software related. That would be nice though... NO WARRANTY!

Very similar if not the same problem but no real advice http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... =cf+reader

I just don't want to pay big $$ to VST for replacement and I want to be sure it is the CF reader and not some other piece of hardware.

I've had a CF reader fail on me and it would lock up the unit, until I removed the card and re-started the mpc. There have been others with this problem as well. Akai doesn't have any CF readers in stock. They didnt have them last year and they still don't have them now. If you're covered under warranty, Akai will replace your unit with a B-Stock, even though the warranty never states that. Don't expect a B-Stock replacement from Akai to look unblemished, though Rob Ray will tell you otherwise. He's basically full of $hit, unless he really is blind as a bat. Better off dealing with VST for warranty issues. As MPC4000XL would say... "TRUST THAT!!!" 8)

So if I'm not covered by warranty I'm fuked. What about VST? You think they can fix the existing CF reader or replace it? I restarted the mpc and removed the card multiple times with no result, so it is definitely something major. Ahh.. doesn't it say on that blue sheet that comes with a MPC that any damage to CF reader is not covered under the warranty anyway??

VST is currently out of stock on replacement card readers. Akai has been backordered for quite a while. My CF reader died several months ago, so i just got a hard drive and never looked back. i do plan on getting a replacement eventually, but i really haven't thought about it much since i got the hard drive.

nah man...I checked all the cards and none of them work.

P.S. this is the WIDEST thread ever and I hate scrolling sideways. I thought it's just my browser acting funny, but one of y'all widened it.

So you don't need to have a CF reader to transfer data from the harddrive to mpc and from a PC to mpc?
If that's the case then Fuk akai and I'll get me some HDD. 8)
