stupid question

sorry everyone. I haven't used any toys only percussion and live instruments for about eight years.
So now that I am starting to build up on my project at home a question...
how does the 1000 fare without a computer system ( I have a fostex 16 track) can it stack up loops and beats and then be able to back me while I record bass licks etc.
does that make sense?...

You could use it without a computer, but you'd be severely limited as you wouldn't be able to load any samples onto it (the only sounds you'd be able to use would be the presets and what you recorded and edited on the 1000).

The 1k really needs a computer, but with that said it is light years ahead of the 2xl. 128Meg of memory and CF cards for storage. If I see another floppy disk or Zip I may....... I loathe sitting in front of a computer to do music as much as the next guy bu if you are here I would guess you have a passing familiarity with them. With a decent editor for samples and the 1K you will be much happier in the long run. I suspect if Akai replace the 2xl in the product line during the summer namm you will be even less happy with a 2xl.

You don't NEED a computer (it helps and I recommend it highly) but you can sample most of your stuff right into the little blue box.

Without a computer you have no way of archiving a sample, you will have to buy a new CF card each time you fill up a card. I would suggest that once you have labored over a sample and used it in a composition you will definately want it on more than one media. CF is good but not exactly thrifty when it comes to saving data. I may be alone but I sample a great deal more than I use, and never discard anything worthy after it is captured. I say all of the above with the greatest respect to djadonis206.
