Yes I currently use a desk now. But seeing as how the 1k has no tilt screen, it does make it a little harder.

To tilt my 1K, I use Auralex Mopad foam monitor isolation pads. In the US they're about $30 or $40 for four pads (in the UK, Digital Village has them for about 40 quid).
Each pad comes in two pieces, the main 'stand' part with the auralex badge stuck to it, which has a sloped area for the speaker to sit on (this is the piece you'll see in most pictures of the pads), and then a foam wedge to fill that slope and level the top of the pad if you want the monitor to be vertical rather than tilted (hope this description makes sense). Anyway, I took the four 'levelling wedges' stacked up two on each side, and have my MPC sitting on those at an angle. You can still play the pads just fine, and I don't have to crane over so far to see the screen easily.

okay here's the story.........
after reading this thread and looking a the picture. i went to guitar center(snuck out early from work) to go pick one up at guitar center. i was looking at the display and i asked one of the slaes rep at if he can pull one of MPC1000 of the shelf and to test fit the stand. and guess what, the muther efn' thing does not fit! it has about 2 inches of gaps on both sides!!
so, looking at it more and buy some crap because of frustration. i ended up buying it any way for $75. i will be modifying it slightly (cutting a piece of the slider on both sides and the shafts) or buying some MO'Pads and cutting that in half to squeeze on each end.
end of story !
