Will the 1000 work for me?

The preset bass samples in the flash memory aren't so bad - wrote a tune with 'em.

Maybe get a freeware softsynth www.computermusic.co.uk and write some basslines in your computer, bounce them down to audio and transfer to your CF, load 'em up into your 1000 - bam!

me personally, with all the 3 tracks i have done with my mpc 1000,

i just loaded a sine wav sample from propellerhead's reason that i created and use the 16 levels fuction to write a bassline, i then pitch it etc to be fairly intune.

hell yeah, thats pretty much all i use reason for. its a DOPE sound creation tool.

^ i use it to compose stuff and drum and bass.

find (or make) a sample of bass that you like, and then use [16LEVELS]

Check out kvr-vst.com, you will be able to find some softsynths for free that will do you some bass proud. There should be some stand alone softsynths you can get. You will need some kind of host software for my fav green oak crystal. Here is an example of what I used to do before the music paid its way. I downloaded a copy of rebirth and would write patterns in the 303 and record them in the free copy of cool edit. This I would export to sample and i had a bass line. $0

Aiight, thanks. But I have a few more questions:

Do I have to record into my computer (in say, Cool Edit) then transfer the recorded audio into the 1000?

Is there a way to make the 1000 trigger VSTi's or Rewire applications?

Or do I have to make the phase on the application, export it as a wave and then export it to the 1000?

You can do it both ways if you have midi io you can use the MPC to trigger vsti in the pc. To do so you would make the track a midi track and the appropriated channel assignment and you can use the pads to trigger the synth.

Or you can capture the loop or single shot and export it as a wav via usb to the MPC.

I use both but like the sample method more, particularly for loops. The mpc is not the greatest loop composition tool, but sure is good. My only negative relates to the lack of recycle like tools inside.

All of this is a matter of preference. What ever gets the music out.
