Midi note question

I have my fantom x connected to my mpc and when I record notes to my mpc from my fantom, the note sound plays back but, I dont see the note data in the step edit. When I play from the pads, the note data is there. How can I see the note data from playing the keys on my fantom??

Are you saying that when you hit play on the MPC the fantom makes sound, but there is no NOTES in the track?
A few questions:
in STEP edit, are you looking into the track you actually recorded to?
in STEP EDIT you can select to show only a range of notes/events (look in the upper right part of the screen: does it read ALL?)

When recording midi from external gear (in MAIN mode) it is better to set the programme to OFF and to set the track type to MIDI (not DRUM, look down left on the MAIN screen).

are you using two midi cables ?

I didn't have the track set as midi. I had it set as drum. I got it
