Timestretch is neat but all you have to do is match your sample up on your turntable (beat match) to your beat on the MPC - being a dj I guess this just comes natural but it's a work around timestretch not found in the 1000 and a work around having to use a computer - try it 1, 2, 3, 4 - 1, 2, 3, 4...you get it

man ... i use the motif es with the mpc

and once i get the motif with sum samplin ram ...


i can do everything the mpc 1k can t do on the motif es

i can dj as well and i can mix, sort of but i dont like doing this becuase on alot of my slower samples i like to timestretch it faster but then put it an un natural deep tone so it sounds fragmented.

when it comes to changing the tempo of a loop, I find it much better to chop it into individual hits - that way you have more control over the tempo, arrangement and content and none of the artifacts you tend to get with timestretching.

Tutor is right, you don't NEED timestretch but it does make things EASIER for you. I don't use it... my original mpc2000 doesn't have it. If it did I might try it but I'm already so used to working around it from not having it, if I finally break down and buy a 1000 it probably wouldn't affect me not having it.

i kinda like the artifacts it puts in once it is pitched down.

I think my lowest to date was around 55bpm. It was madd nice. I had peoples amazed when I told them the actual bpm.

You are right though, life is better outside the box

My last beat box was a korg ES-1, which had beat slicing...auto detect the each beat & hit, break them out, then allowed you to enable/disable each slice of the whole sample...so not only did it make it easy to speed up & slow down, but you could pull snares in & out, get rid of fills, etc. It was the bomb. Way more flexible than timestretch...the cool thing was that you could do it realtime...grab your sample & go live.

.....all my life !! i've been collecting gear for the past 16 years (i am 32). in 5th grade we had a moog Sonic 6 and a mimimoog in the guitar closet that i would jam on afterschool......

sample the hell out of the juno for a month and then trade it / sell it for another analog you can sample....

i got juno 106, and i don't think i'll ever gonna sell it. I always use it to make my bass tracks.

Breakbeat Mechanic... that pic is mad old, he used that for his first albums, Endtroducing and Preemptive Strike. He used the MPC3000 on the others and the 3000 with a Roland vp9000 on his last one... the Private Press. He talks about his 3000 like in every interview.
