I have a Triton Studio, Roland XP-50, Yamaha Motif-rack, & several other pieces of gear all hooked up to my Mac with DP4 as my main sequencer. I hear alot of beats made on the MPC that sound really punchy and have that, well I guess it's an MPC sound... Am I just imagining this or could I just load the same samples into the triton and get the same results? I don't want to waste my money. Thanks

my own conclusions from a post i created a few days back in 'Lou Ones' thread.

here it is:

'let me tell you that the 4k is an amazing machine. its pads to me are quite nice, although the 2k ones are slightly better though (bit more bounce). its the sequencer engine of the 4k thats wins though.

like note repeat can be pressed down perminantly.

pad mixer can be controled via the Qlink faders.

24-bit sound for wider dynamic drums.

nice punchy sound. (i had all 3 laid out in a shop fed thru the 824 Mackie monitors, and the same kicks and snares on all 3, same levels and all. the 4k and 2k sounded alot fuller and the 1k came out tinny with out any master fx. and i have a 1k, so i was finally proved wrong. still love the 1k for its size though.

the 4k has real time shift timing.

960 ppqn. i found that you can turn timing off, and bang out drums with no limits (well none that i found).

built in Turntable preamp. wicked.

sampler recording quality was very clean, and warm, wihtout lots of colouring in the mid range that i found the 2k gave.

but theres alot more about the 4k and there is so much you can do.

ime making the move from 1k to 4k very soon.'

note: i have a 1000 myself.

also note that the US based producers have a very expensive sound. its not just the MPC that you hear in many of these bangin tunes. alot of the time its alot of the outboard gear that you hear.

Like:

SSL eq and compressor sound.
Avalon gear
DBX compressor
BSS limiters

but the MPC does have the punch, in that it doesnt flatten your sound when its sampled in as many soft and some hardware samplers do.

It doesn't even matter man. I got a Triton classic and I can get my samples to sound as punchy as any other peice of gear. No outboard gear needed. It just depends on how well you know your equip.

a quick question???

do you want an MPC for its sequencer feel and timing, or do you want it for its sound?

i use Logic Audio Platinum 6 on my Mac as my main sequencer, and found programming drums on there a bit long winded, but you can get great results.

but for me the pads, the punchy mpc sound (on the 1000 you can Eq the sound on the low end), and the tight sequencer feel did it for me).

my move to a 4000 is purely for the next step up in the MPC range.
i find that it sounds slightly fatter naturally with out the EQ, etc.

but the 1000 might appear punchy to you, you need to try it for yourself.

i have a Korg Triton Rack, but find its sampling tedious, and its not a sequencer. the mpc has a very different sequencer feel. thats why you need to try it. its got a human feel to it.

i have stopped making beats on the computer since the mpc.

Thanks guy's for your input. I get compliments on my sound here, but most of the people that I am around just like our music. They don't listen to detail. Where I think something sucks they think it sounds great. I guess I need to just bite the bullet and get some of that Avalon equipment that I have been drooling over. The new SSL Channel looks inviting as well.
Have any of you heard how the Vintech gear sounds? That X73 looks like it might be a good link between an MPC, Triton, or what ever piece you have going into your recording system.
