With my tail between my legs.....

Well, I brought my supposed lemon MPC1000 back to the store 2 months after buying it and shockingly, got a full cash refund. I vowed to never purchase another Akai product again, after losing hours of work due to a faulty MPC1000 model. I did some research and simply could not find anything that matches the MPC1000 for what I want to do, which is pretty simple acoustic tribal jazzy electonica. Anything else cheaper like the Roland or Emu machines simply don't cut it and anything that matches the MPC is super expensive. So I went out, to a different store (psychological I guess) and bought an MPC1000 . My real problem was with the directory, saving songs and sounds. One question: is it possible to save a sound, with the same name (for example a cool snare hit I like) in several different folders? That is, if the snare with the same name is in more than one program, is this even possible, and if it is, will it mess up my directory and make it crash or something?

Abbasolutely, I'm doing this with a "sidestick" sample I use in more than one Program. It means wasting a bit oif space, but really helps when archiving Programs on the PC and loading and unloading my CF cards.

It's a PC FAT file structure, you can do most anything that you can do on a floppy disk or PC disk. The only limit I've seen is name length: I had some samples where the first 16 (?) characters of the name were identical, so it only loaded the first one.

Yes it is - I prefer not to waste the space on my CF because I still only use the 32mb but you can create folders on your disk and save the same sample in a different folder - when you reach the prompt to replace same sounds say NO - My problem with this is I end up with the same sample 10 times on one disk - Since I do have the time to manually go in to and select the the sample and assign it to a pad it's all good to replace the same samples - I haven't had any problems with it crashing or freezing or getting confused -
