mpc1000 question?!?!?

can you assign the same sample to different pads, and then trim the start and end times on each one differently??? hope this makes sense

You can assign one sample to different pads and use different attack and decay values for each pad.
Don't know if that's what you ment.

there's several ways around this

you could copy the sample and treat the copies however you like

you can "extract" the part of the sample you want into a new sample (kind of like "copy" and "paste into a new document" all in one command)

use your computer to edit the samples into whatever config you want


i know it's not the same but it's certainly not a deal killer

well what i mean is that on some samplers, when you make a sample, you can assign it to different pads. Then each pad can have different trim settings. Like say you got a breakbeat you just sampled. You assign the break to 3 pads. Then on the first pad you can trim the break down to the snare, 2nd pad kick , third hats, etc

yup i know what youre saying, but it cant really be done on the mpc1k (at least not yet)

there are plenty of simple ways around it tho.

yeah actually ive used reason a lot (i did maybe about 100 beats on it last year and the year before). there's something really dull about the sound of it (the spring reverb on the new reverb module is way nice tho). i love how it works but the sound quality is just garbage.

like i could take a sample i just recorded from a nice mic thru a nice mic pre, i know how the thing sounds you know? i put it into reason and it sounds dark and lifeless, even with no mixer, no fx or anything.

the mpc sounds really good to me. frequently a little bit dark, which i dont like, but the low end is so tight that i dont mind everything not being explodingly bright all the time. maybe i was just used to working on a mac where everything is super duper clean digital sounding (i did all my stuff on macs before getting the 1k). the mpc's bit grunger is really nice... using the 6 outputs and mixing from my analog mixer is getting me the best results so far, by a lot.

No,

A Track is saved in a sequence, it does not contain audio.

To get your track into your PC you need to record it using the MPC's digital or analogue outputs routed into your PC's soundcard inputs.

The USB is used to transfer the audio/midi files used in your track.

well you could resample it if the beat isnt too long, or if you have the RAM to spare. after resampling, it's just another wav file in the mpc - exportable like any other
