confused in regards to mpc 1000 features

i tried searching throught he posts, but was not able to find an asnwer to this question; does the mpc 1000 have note variation?

and from what i've read there is no pitch shift or timestretch on it, correct? is this something that may be updated ina future os? or is it a hardware issue?

being that the 1000 is comupter based, there will never be timestretch on it.

what kind of note variation are you talking about? there's q sliders plus velocity, tune and filter available from the step editor. there's also 16 levels.

im talking about the feature on the 2000 where you can have one sample layed out on all 16 pads at different pitches, so that its essentially functioning as a keyboard.

It has 16 levels....but not sure it it has chromatic order.

auto chromatic is a feature on the mpc 2000 that will take a sample or note ( in my case ) and asign it across the mpc 2000's 64 pads in 64 diiferent tones like a keyboard.....this is useful if i hook up a midi controler to it and want to play out the bass lines with keys.... 16 pads x 4 banks = 64 pads.

now if the 1000 does not have this, it really sucks..cause i use that for bass.

mpc currently doesn't do this automatically...you need to do it yourself by tuning each pad in a progam.

instead of wanting the same sound at 64 pitches could i, while in the middle of composing, keep pressing 16 levels, at the higher or low pitch ends, so that i in real time could go up/down an octave or whatever?

No.

The 16 levels function merely assigns the Note Variation parameter for a given pad to whatever you choose (tuning, filter, attack, etc) and allows you to control it using the 16 pads (not all "64 pads"). While 16 levels is active, you can't change bank buttons (since the pads at this point are really only playing varied parameter versions of the same sample rather than creating new samples, as would occur using the chromatic tuning) Chromatic tuning, by the way, is only available on the XL and not the regular 2000.

Also, 16 levels is not much of a "realtime" sort of function. It requires navigating a brief dialog window and would be bothersome in live performance, in my opinion.

You can, however, layer your sequence with multiple iterations of 16-leveled tuning. IE, enable 16 levels with the base not on pad 4 for playing your upper registers, then go through it again with 16 levels set to tune with the base note on pad 12 and play your lower end.

It's fairly easy to work out chords using 16 levels, at least for simple diatonic chords. For any two rows, play the bottom left pad and the top right. Also try playing top left and bottom right or top right and bottom left of any set of pads within two adjacent columns. The last way to form simple chords is playing any pads on the same diagonal.
