muting tracks/next seq - note off transmitted? bug?

I have a very strange problem. I have a sequence with a bass sound on pad 2. I've used the 16 levels function to sequence a bassline. the problem is that when I'm just messing around in the track mute / next seq. screens - muting tracks, switching sequences, pressing pad 2 cuts off the bass sound! it seems to be the case that the note off message is transmitted even if it shouldn't..

Am I the only one getting this? any fixes? I'm emailing akai on this one.

edit - first i thought only some sounds do this, until i realized it only occurs with samples set to 'note on' ... duh
