i think you should stick with the 1k and your ES.
from what i've heard the ES has a good sampler.

yes. the mpc4k is essentially an mpc sequencer in the same box with a z-series sampler. the architecture is quite different from the other mpcs. the sequencer is also totally souped up. it's a beast.

loved mine, but wasn't using it enough and sold it after a year.

the 1k is very convenient, and it's a cool scratchpad... but I'm definitely missing many of the 4k's features.

I'm hoping the 1k will prove itself as I start preparing my live set...
