Hey new here and i already have JJ os and a new mpc1000.

Is it possible to have different track lengths for a sequence say have a track which loops for 2 bars for every 1 of a 4 bar track? I can only seem to create tracks of the same length within a program which feels very limiting..im sure this cant be right, is it?

For example on my rs7000 tracks can be any length and just loop as such with a program. EG track 1 2 bar drums, track 2 8 bar melody, track3 2 back fillin etc.

Sorry its a newbie question but i cant seem to find any answers on a search and i checked the FAQ. Maybe im just missing some fundamental understanding here.

Thanks.

The easiest solution is to copy your loop and paste it to the length of the longest loop.
For example:
Let's say you have a 8 bar paino loop, but you have a two-bar drum loop.
Just copy the two bar loop to the third bar and you then have a four bar loop.
Then just copy the 4 bar loop to the fifth loop. and you have an 8 bar loop.
But if I were you, I'd just program an 8 bar loop and maintain the feel that comes along with doing that, but if you want to loop the drums that way, then that works as well.

Got ya..thanks for that. Its a huge pitty it cant be done. I have added it to JJ request.

The problem with that is if you want to adjust a note in the 2 bar loop you need to rebuild the 8 bars copy of it.

Anway thanks for your reply.

That's not even a problem, that's a part of music creation.

What KkonEl said is how I and many others have been doing it for years.

No problem well i think if you had that abilty you guys woud love it, lets hope JJ can add it.

I think the best thing about it is you can jam loops of different size to get a quick idea of the final product. I find it helps with creation process.

Of course there are work arounds but i think its desirable.

Id love to lose the rs7000 actually but this is a sticking point. Everything else my 1000 can do.

can you please fill me in on how you are copying the 2 bar loop to paste it to a blank bar in the sequence? i know the copy options for seq and for track but they only seem to allow you to copy it to a new track or new sequence.

Check 'em again. I extend sequences like this all the time. Just leave the COPY TO option set to the same seq you are working on.

That said, I think the option requested in the first post is a good idea. Makes things even more quick & handy. If it's good enough for Yahmaha's poor bastard RS7000 it should be good enough for the MPC...

dango,

create a 2 bar sequence

hit MODE + SEQ EDIT

click the tab for "bars"

copy from Bar 1 to Bar 2 After bar 2

1 time

DO IT

wallah, 4 bar loop.

super simple.

everythign that you already had there just adds on to the end of yoru 2 bar sequence and makes it 4 bars.

as of now, changing bars of a pattern you're making on the mpc is done to the sequence, not the track. the sequence controls every track. also, think about this - you save and load sequences, all or one. you don't save or load tracks (although i think it'd be a great idea to be able to do so, it seems like a lot of work).

since all the mpc code is built upon interrelated file types (pgm, seq, prj, ini, etc) adding one or changing one could also change the rest, sometimes for worse (bugs).

the backgroudn on these cautionary words are from jj's faq - "you have to keep in mind the compatability of" etc etc etc.

i'm no coder, so it very well may be an easy thing to do. however, from what i DO know, it doesn't seeem like it could be.

my thoughts. i think it's a good idea, and more than anything i like that people are bringing in "best of" features from different machines. that turns our 1000 into a little frankenstein. so i support it and i def wouldn't block this from going through, but from what little i know i have doubts as to its ease.

for example - jj's been working on this grid qlink edit for a while now. luckily this is a feature i am really excited about. however, what if we were told that he would work on diff. track lengths and a way to load individual tracks instead of whole seqs - but that he wouldn't finish til say next june?
