mpc1000 backward compatibility ?

hey,

soon i'm going to purchase my first piece of hardware, i already decided it's going to be a sampler, and after some research decided to go for a mpc (due to it's strong sequencing possibilities).

i am still in doubt wether to get a 2000xl, or a 1000, at the moment i'm leaning more towards the 1000, mainly due to it's smaller size and proper functions (the same as the 2kxl apart from timestretch i believe?). the 4000 is out of my pricerange either way.

one important question i have to ask though: how "backwards compatible" is the 1000? since it doesn't have the awesome sound the 4000 has, or even as good a sound the 2000 provides, i would like to be able to just create sequences/tracks in the 1000, to perhaps later record it with a 2000xl/4000 (whichever i can borrow).

upto what level is this possible? can these older machines load entire tracks created by the 1000? i could not find it using the search function. thank you in advance for your information.

as 1000 dosn't support SND, you will have to make everything with .WAV . The 1000's PGM files are not fully compatible with the other MP's. And, I don't know about the SEQ files. Basicaly, you will have hard time to play your tracks exactly the same way, on another MP model.

MPC1000 doesn't have awesome sound ?!?!?! Do you have any arguments to support what you just said?

about the sound:
apologies, i think i drew my conclusions a little too fast. i went to a gear shop last week and asked a couple of questions about the mpc's. the person i talked to also mentioned that the 2000's soundquality is a lot better - which i assumed logical and true.

coincidental, today someone told me the sound on the 1000 is better.
i guess it's a matter of taste, either way, i'll listen to them both before buying.


what does surprise me is the difference in price between the cheaper and newer mpc1k (with more options and standard more outputs) towards the older mpc2k(xl). lack of soundquality would have explained it to me, however this perhaps is even the other way around, so why is the mpc1k that much cheaper?

is oooold at this point. I am sure the components needed for the 1K are much cheaper these days. They are also probably making less profit off of the 1k in hopes of selling thousands of them.

Not sure I am in a position to compare since I have not owned a 2K in about 4 years BUT, I think the sound quality on the 1K is damn good.

First of all, never make your judgement based on salesman's advice. Their goal is to make you spend the most $$$ possible. Always keep that in mind

I'm not an expert in marketing, but one thing is sure: Akai woldn't degrade the mpc's sound quality. It just dosn't make sens to me, to come up with a new model that sound worst then all the otherones on the market. I think that it is mostly due to lower production costs.
