using the mpc with live (acoustic)musicians

this is my first post - so firstly, hello all.

i am a recording musician and the mpc 1000 was recommended to me as a way of adding some of the electronic sounds from my records to my band's live sound - which is a kind of lounge, jazz thing. I love everything about the 1000 - apart from the manual.


if any one knows of more comprehensible tutorials i would be very grateful - or if anyone has anyting useful about live triggering it would be great.

particularly, i hoped to be able to hit pads and the mpc automatically play them in time with the bpm of a given sequence.

apologies if this is very obvious - just never been very good with tech.

Read up on the TRACK MUTE screen and NEXT SEQUENCE screen. Then make up your song/loops/noises etc into sequences and then play live by changing from one seqence to the next live. You can have up to 64 sequences to change on the four pad banks. Also you can use the SUDDEN button to change sequences on the beat. It's pretty cool, easy to make a song live on the fly

is there a way that noises triggered by pads hit live over a sequence will automatically be played in time?

Not against a live musician, unless you press the pad at the same time ...i am going to be doing some performing soon with live musicians as well...so I am going to use the next sequence pads, and also maybe program the drums/noises on the fly as the musicians jam and make a beat....you can put Time Correct on and gradually build up a beat live, and if the musicians are good enough they can play into the beat live as well. Think of the mpc as just another instrument and you will be able to come up with heaps of ideas...it can easily be played and used live

Other option is to put your guitar/instrument through a midi syncable efx box/filter box and have midi out from mpc triggering the efx...this way you will have a synced sound source from a live instrument. (check out Roger Linn Adrenalinn etc)

yes, i think i need to practice a bit with this - it seems the possibilites are there and like anything , its just getting comfortable - and confident with it.

however, i do think a 'live' timing correction would be a great thing - ie an option that if you play a pad just before a beat, the mpc will automatically play it on the beat
