MIDDIII ARGHHH!!!

hey guys... im having a bigg asss problem with my midi keyboard.. well everything works fine although i cant use all 16 channels

i load up a instrument in ableton live 6 and it works fine with my mpc, i can hear everything and it records into my mpc... although when i load another instrument in ableton live and want to record, the same notes are being played for that instrument

ive tried changing the track, midi channel in both the mpc and ableton although it will jus tplay the same notes for every instrument i select..

is there a way around this.. if so it would be much appreciated! =)

not sure how you are intending to use it. typical setup is to use the keyboard as a controller. if the keyboard is also a synth, it needs to be set to LOCAL OFF to use the keys and knobs only as a MIDI transmitter.

controller OUT to MPC IN-A, MPC OUT-A to controller IN, MPC OUT-B to PC IN, PC OUT to MPC IN-B. this is if you are using the MPC as master sequencer.

on the MPC you select a new sequence. quick example setup:

track one: will be a DRUM track, using a sample kit PROGRAM you've loaded on the MPC. MIDI should be OFF.

track 2: MIDI track for synth/controller. synth will be set to channel 01. MPC is set to type MIDI, pgm NONE, midi 01A.

track 3: MIDI track for ableton live. set live to receive on channel 01. MPC set to type MIDI, pgm NONE, midi 01B.


if you set this all up properly, when you switch between tracks, the MPC and the controller will switch sending MIDI data between these three devices.

if you wish to use multiple soft instruments in ableton live, each one should be configured to receive on a different MIDI channel. you load all the instruments up at the same time, then switch control using the MPC by switching tracks. if you want two instruments to playback the same exact thing, set them to the same channel. your keyboard may also be capable of multiple channels, check your manual.


once you understand the above example, you should be able to reconfigure your MIDI however you want, for example, using ableton live as the master sequencer.

just keep track of what is sending MIDI data, over what channel, into which machines...
