MPC 1000 and Logic

Whassup cats? I'm trying to do my drum tracks in the mpc and then dump that information back into logic so I can do the editing and the rest of the arranging there. I have tried putting a physical instrument in the environment window and connecting midi cables to the appropriate places. If you can make the mpc work in midi, I don't understand why the info cannot be sent through usb like a midi controller. Can someone please help me?
