MPC 1000 and Logic

Whassup cats? I'm trying to do my drum tracks in the mpc and then dump that information back into logic so do the editing and the rest of the arranging. I have tried putting a physical instrument in the environment window and connecting midi cables to the appropriate places. If you can make the mpc work in midi, I don't understand why the info cannot be sent through usb like a midi controller. Can someone please help me?

First of all the MPC doesn't receive MIDI "thru" USB... You need a MIDI interface for your computer... you should read the manual first... then come back for a breakdown... If are still having problems...

I now realize that midi info through the usb cable is just not the mpc works. However, there must be some way to have midi info from the mpc, show up in logic where I can edit it. I have seen this done before in pro tools. Do most people get their mpc tracks into a host sequencer by recording them as audio?

Alright big homie... we got you... I don't own Logic but I'm thinking when I comes to importing midi files into a DAW... you have a couple of options...

1. Check to see if you can record the MIDI... (remember you have to have a MIDI interface) bring up a midi track... arm it (that what it is in Pro-Tools anyway) then set the channels to respond to the given MIDI track on the MPC...

To do this you have to enter your MIDI set up on the MPC and select SYNC out... I use A+B because I have a outrageous MIDI set up... just make sure your cables match if you using (A for instantance) match what is going into your MIDI interface..(I know right, duh)

You can record the MIDI channels One.. two... or all at the same time... (mind you that MIDI isn't sound) I seen it where the producer would use some headphone on the Headphone jack... link up the MIDI, then record the MIDI infomation...

It would be like setting up a sound module... but your not triggering sounds your just writing the infomation

Option two...

Save the MIDI data and import it... Page 91 in the 2.0 instruction manual (you can download this from AKAI... if you need it)

Save as a SMF (standard MIDI file) then usb it to your computer... open Logic then import it... (I don't own logic so your on your own with that one)

you can then edit the info and use Logic sequencer as the Master... triggering the sounds on the MPC... Good Luck
