mpc 1000 damaging my CF card

this is the 2nd time i go to save my project,and when i create a folder in the save menu it freezes up and when i go to load the CF card on either my mpc or comp the text turend into [] [] [] <~~~ squares and such, but all the shit id gone. has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it so it doesnt happen again

My 2 guesses:

1. Hardware failure i.e. CF card improperly seated in the socket or other socket/pin/header connection issues.
