Saving programs (making your own drum kits)

I spent lots of time creating a cool drum kit, and then when I powered the machine off, it didn't save my kit. I did use the "DJ hip hop" kit and added sounds to the b, c, and d banks, but they didn't "stick".

Do I need to create a new "user program" to keep the samples where I want them in the banks?

whenever you create something, it is inside the RAM on the MPC. as soon as you power off, the RAM goes bye bye.

if you want to keep whatever you are working on, you have to SAVE it. the mpc is like any other computer in this regard. go read up on SAVING. otherwise your sequences, programs and samples will all keep disapearing if you don't learn how to SAVE them
