Broken Pin CF Reader NOOO

Hey everyone, i've had my MPC1000 for about 4 years and managed to break 2 of the pins in the cf reader (i know, im an idiot). Now i was wondering if theres a way to fix this problem by A. buying new pins for the connector, or a new connector all together. Or should I just buy more internal memory. Is it possible to hook the MPC's internal memory up to the computer via USB, otherwise i might as well get rid of my MPC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The CF readers might be backordered because it's a common problem. Call 'em to confirm.

More internal memory will not solve your problem, and no, the internal RAM is not accessible via USB. However, it's a good idea to have the max ram anyway.

The alternative to the CF is a hard drive (and the HDM10 hard drive mount kit -- also available from VST). See the sticky posts at the top of the forum for more info on compatible drives.

you could also try to do some research and find a 3rd party cf card reader
then you'd be treated as a hero by all w/ broken cf card readers
cuz the replacements cost a bundle from vst

first it can be replaced, it's $136 from Akai's parts dept. but you can get it from a third party company that sells 2.0 card reader. jus google. you have to do some de and sodering to attach and deattach the reader. Mines broken to been broke about 4months.

would you sell it at the price if you could? thing is most users wont research it. theyre too busy yo yo yoing...

if it's just the connector, they can be desoldered/resoldered, but i believe that it's surface mounted, which is more difficult to play with. like you say, not for the yo-yos.

i would, and then i wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

The actual broken piece is the pins that go into the CF card.

we had the same problem... its better just to get a harddrive... its not too expensive... its also so much better imo!

I spent 30 on the HDM kit and 50 on a 40 gig hard drive. It's well worth it, also upgrade your ram to 128 so you can sample for 12 minutes lol and make MF Doom tracks!
