saving and loading programs and sample malfunctions

ok i bought my mpc 1000 used and im starting to suspect it may be deffective...I have a program full of some of my favorite samples that i just saved so havnt gotten the chance to set to autoload yet and when I go to mode and load the program it loads about halfway and then says, "file not found!" so i resampled everything and then attempted to save all the samples to that program agian and when i attempt to save them, it says, "Directory error!" Now is there something i'm doing wrong or should this not be happening?

the "Directory Error" is due to a bug in AKAI's Operating System. They have not fixed the problem. The only way to fix the problem is to install one of the 3rd party Operating Systems programmed by "JJ", and then format your hard drive and/or card with the new OS. Do a search for directory error and you will find a lot of info about it... and go to the "JJ OS Forum" for more info on the JJ OS.

thanks alot...do you happen to know anything about the "file not found!" because it only tells me directory error when I try to save a single sample and it never used to do that...i saved the entire memory and tried to load the program when it said file not found..

It is probably the due to the file corruption that is happening. The cause of the directory error and the file not found error is probably the same. The AKAI OS causes files to get corrupted when it saves them. Sometimes you loose just 1 file, sometimes a whole directory. It is probably saying file not found because the sample you saved didn't get saved correctly so when you are trying to load that program again, the MPC can't locate the file it needs for the program because it did not save properly.

thanks youre helping me understand this alot but when you say it does not save correctly do you mean i am not dong it correctly or the mpc isnt because ive recorded this sample 20 times and it just wont save

I mean that the MPC is not saving it correctly. You didn't do anything wrong, it is a known defect in the AKAI software (operating system, i.e. OS).

should i try creating a new program and saaving the samples to a different program or do you think that wont help at all...I mean i just dont understand it never use to do this

I have not had a problem saving right out of the box. I had the Akai OS V2.10. I did quickly install JJOS 3.x and from there went to 4.4x. I do not regret is one bit as it is more streamlined than the Akai OS.

I also installed a HD to store all the programs and samples. I highly recommend this if you can ASAP. I have had problems with data on the CF drive, not necessarily with the MPC, but with regular PC stuff.

There is a ton of information on this site pertaining to our equipment. All you have to do is search even if the search feature is a little cumbersome.
