16 MB INSTALLED????

I THOUGHT THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 16 MB INSTALLED?
WHEN I GO TO LOAD I ONLY HAVE 11.4 MB
I HAVE TURNED OFF AUTOLOAD ALREADY...

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IM DOING WRONG....

When u go to load it states how much memory is free on the CF card, not the internal RAM which you are making references to. The card that comes with the MPC can hold 32MB, in which case u have 20.6 MB of samples on the CF card.

There is 16 MB of RAM installed by default.

Think of the CF Card as a hard disk and the MPC as a computer.... when u shut down ur computer, all your documents, programs etc do not get deleted as they are saved to the hard disk.. When u load samples from the CF Card they go into the RAM. The RAM clears if the power fails or u purge the samples when they are not in use. Just liek if the power failed ud lose anything in the clipboard if u copied something on ya computer..

I already knew that ...im just sayin ...shouldnt i have 16mb? I only have 11.4 listed ...im gonna buy some memory to boost it to 64 but wtf

You will always have about 5MB less than the amount of ram you have installed because the MPC allocates 5 MB for internal flash memory for sounds. It has the supplied sounds but you can load any sounds into this area as long as you don't exceed 5 MB.

by the way, any sounds in the internal flash memory automatically load on boot up whether they are in the autoload directory on the cf card or not.

.....i thought the 5meg reserve was so that the machine could (1) load its own operating system and (2) also to hold the sequencer data.

I think the OS is in the bios and not the Ram but I could be wrong there.

IN THE MANUAL IT STATES " WHEN U SAVE THE DATA TO THE INTERNAL FLASH MEMORY, THE NEW DATA WILL OVERWRITE THE FACTORY DATA" ..."THE INTERNAL FLASH MEMORY CANNOT HAVE THE FILE THAT IS LARGER THAN 5 MB"
I GUESS THE 5 MB OF THE INTERNAL FLASH GETS CUT FROM THE 16MB AND THATS WHY I HAD 11.4....IT MAKES SENSE NOW..

SHIT I GOTTA GET ONE OF THOSE GENERIC 128MB MEMORY CHIPS EVEN IF IT READS 50 MB IM SET...THEY ARE ONLY 25-30 BUCKS NOW ON THE INTERNET...THANKS YALL PEACE

I REPLACED THE 5 MEGS OF FLASH MEMORY AND NOW WHEN I TURN ON MY MPC I ONLY HAVE 6.6 MEGS (INSTEAD OF 11.4 I HAD + MY 5MB OF FLASH I ADDED)....SO THE 5 MEGS DOESNT GO TOWARDS THE RAM....4.6 MB GOES TOWARDS TURNING ON THE MPC...AND U GET 11.4 IF U DONT HAVE ANYTHING ON AUTOLOAD OR LOADED IN THE MPC..SUCKS

My guess:

the SDRAM (16MB) will contain:

Sequencer data

Sample data

Possibly the Operatingsystem moved from Internal Flash as this might be slow and 8bit wide.

the Internal Flash (8MB??) will contain:

Boottrap for machine

Operatingsystem that might be moved and executed from SDRAM

Up to 5MB of samples that are loaded to SDRAM when you start the machine.
