HOW DO YOU APPLY BEATMAPPER TO SHORT SAMPLE FROM THE MPC?

Hybrid and Bigal_Davis, you should seriously consider moving to ACID 4.0 - when I upgraded I never looked back. It has a much cleaner interface, allows automation for almost all the effects and parameters, and has a ton of midi functionality (not that you're using it). Make sure you go to Sony's site and get the latest update, and it'll work nicely.

J Wales, not sure I understand your question, but I'm thinking you want to know how to use the beatmapper with short samples you've imported to your computer from your MPC? The beatmapper (which IMHO is a complete waste of time anyway) is primarily for long samples that you don't want to loop but want to beatmatch to your project. I usually do this manually by ear and eye and have much better results. Short samples are usually set as either loops or one-shots.

your right aslinth, as soon as I can rubb a couple nickels together I'll upgrade. But my next purchase will be recycle - after peeping that recycle tutorial i'm feending for it.

J-Dub - Timestretch? thats all acid is is timestreach! I jest. But if your looking for a good use for that beet maper heres a doozy. Take your favorite song that you have an acapella for, import the original song and beat match it so the project temp is the same as the song. Then bring in the acapella on a new track as a one shot, line it up with the original so when you hit play it sounds norma (if a little loud). Then change porpeerty of the acapella track to beat map, and now that track is locked to the beat (make sure you check the box for preserve pitch). Mute the original track and start remixing. or better yet, chge the tempo to a whole nomber, render the accapella, bring it into your MPC and remix it with your bare hands!!!
You can keep the tempo similar to the original or jack it up and mak a club banger, or jack it up some more and make a DnB bomb shell.

you can use the soft synth in ACID but they sound horribly bad, having that said, you can use your Oxygen 8 to bang out some melodies using VST Instrument (you can download many of them for free in the web (say, vstcentral.com) by inserting a midi track into your project and select a VSTi plugin in the midi track.

Or

You can rewire Reason (if you have a copy) into Acid and have your Oxygen 8 bang out melodies from Reason and record it onto Acid as a midi track.

hybrid, i just got recycle a few days ago - pure ridiculousness. I'm using it for all kinds of stuff, not just breaks. i'm finding the combination of acid, recycle, cool edit, and the mpc very powerful...

1.With Recycle, you don't have to worry about time stretch. Go for it!
2. Acid is good for putting loops together to get the feel for what you want. Then drop those loops down to Recycle to get it chopped all-up for a program in the MPC. The midi trigger the slices so you don't have to worry about tempo changes or time stretching. Recycle is a killer!

I have Acid 4, it's tight, but I'm used to banging out my cuts on hardware sequencers. Is it a good idea to have both ACID and the MPC? I'm almost sold on getting the 1K, is there a better program to use with it?

equi-knocks, what do you mean by 'better program'? what types of features are you looking for? what is your current setup lacking that you want to improve? there are lots of great programs out there, they each have different strengths...

I make mostly hip hop beats. I like being able to use the computer to move loops around because it's easy. However, I like to tap out most of my music with the hardware. For the complete sound, I'd like to be able to use samples also. It would be great if I could make most of my music on the MPC (portable) and have to play on the computer so I can work with it and add the vocals. I've got the Mic, a weak ass SBLive, and ACID but just found a 1K for a good price. Would I need an interface also or would the 1000s USB capability help.
Basically, I'm pretty new and ain't trying to blow $$$ on the wrong sh*t.

After burning my eyes reading everythig in tha search, here's a cheap gameplan that I came up with.

Record MPC sequences into ACID with an interface (Tascam Us-122?)
Sequence the song in Acid and tweak it with Soundforge (does it suck?)/
Lay vocals by pluging Mic into Us-122's XLR/
Mix and export as a wav in Soundforge

Another option (if you have enough memory) is to record the MPC sequences back onto the MPC itself - then transfer the longer samples to your computer via the USB. This is pretty much what I do; I create lots of small loops on the MPC and then USB them. Edit the start and end points with Soundforge, and sequence them in ACID.

Otherwise, upgrading that SBLive is a really good idea. I've never used a Tascam US122, but it looks like it would fit your needs - esp if you're working w/ vocals. The Tascam comes w/ Cubasis and Gigastudio, so maybe you can experiment with them too.

I've heard a few people jock the MBox, but that's considerably more expensive ($450) - probably caus it comes w/ ProTools LE 6.1, Reason Adapted, and Ableton Live Edition A.

ProTools seems to be a software of choice - maybe somebody can tell us both what it has over sequencing w/ ACID... Also can anybody offer a direct comparison of Ableton Live vs ACID for timestretching and looping?
