When I make program (slices) - unwanted normalize!

I'm chopping the break from 'scorpio' into 2 simple slices, each 2 beats long, making one bar in all.
When I had set my slice points, I clicked 'convert' and made a new program out of the slices.
Now when I play those slices on the pads, it sounds distinctly as though the sample has been normalized and made into mono (possibly) as well.

Now the hats are way too loud, and snare has lost it's snap.

What's the deal? Any ideas?

Ok just spent more time messing with this problem.

I tried cutting the same bar long break up, this time into drum hits, rather than evenly spaced slices (2 crotchets long each last time).
Now I had my 2 different kicks, 2 diff snares, and 2 diff hats......created a slice program, and again it sounds definitely as though they have been converted to normalize, and mono, and maybe even bit grunger. They basically sound crap. The kick lost all of it's bounce/shape, the snare is quiet and as sharp as glass, and the hats are also uber sharp and fckn loud.

Please help. Couldn't find much in the manual as usual, and my search results on these forums are just showing up peoples recipes for making nachos and stuff.

is ur rec/gain too high?

converting slices to a program in the akai OS coverts the sample to mono

take the time to chop in the trim screen

or get the newest JJ OS

i beleive it has stereo chopping

megaton - no rec/gain is fine, the sample plays beautifully during chop editing, just when I convert to program it's all fkd up.

CAP3 - what do you mean by 'take the time to chop in trim screen' ? where else can you chop? I am in the trim screen chopping of course, and then when I am happy with my slices I convert to program, then the sample sounds bad, normalized? maybe bit grunged? and definitely mono.

I should add that in the same session I've chopped a soul music sample into 15 pieces, and then converted it to a slice program, and it sounds great. I think it's been mono'd, but definitely not normalized and bit grunged.

get the JJ OS, it has stereo chopping

I couldn't stand mono chopping in the AKAI OS


to get around this mono chopping, extract each chop instead of creating a new program. It takes more time but thats what you get with a bullshit OS

ok so, chop the sample up as usual, then highlight each individual slice (not yet converted to slice program) and save them as samples, then start a new program in the program mode, and manually assign the samples to this new program??
Will that avoid the mono thing.....wonder why they programmed it to mono'ize in the first place. Sounds like all it would do is save Megabytes, at the cost of making flat sounding music.
I've only had the 1000 for one week, but after making 7-8 songs, I think it's time to go the JJ OS.

what i meant was EXTRACT portions of the sample instead of using the SLICE button.

takes longer, but not much.

Sorry my mpc lingo is not polished yet. When I said slices I meant parts of the chopped sample (during editing), not actual 'sliced' program slices. I'm still not making sense! ha ha....
